My house is being added on to, and the past few days the HVAC guys have been installing Air Conditioning. Now, my house is a cape, which means retrofitting it with AC for the lower level is very difficult because there is nowhere to run the hoses. There is a hip wall (which is a slanty wall that follows the roofline) along the front of the house upstairs and in my bedroom. There is a small crawlspace between this wall and the exterior wall that is about waist high if you are standing up. The access to this is in my mom's closet, and we use it for some storage, but only a small part is accessible (the rest is too narrow).

They are running the AC tubing through this space in order to place vents in the downstairs ceiling (the upstairs is no problem--the tubing goes in the attic). In order to access the space over the den, they need to run the tubes through the space behind my slanty wall, but there is no way to access this area.

So this morning I was awoken by one of the AC men coming into my room with a big ol' saw. He told me I needed to clear out my closet. So i got out of bed (in my boxers), got half-dressed and started taking stuff out of my closet. After it was clear, he knelt down into the corner of my closet, fired up the big buzzsaw, and proceeded to cut a gaping hole in my closet wall. I left to go take a shower, and when I returned they were running AC tubing down this tiny narrow crawlspace, using the hole in my closet as an access point to install vents for the downstairs.



I don't know what's going to happen. I suppose they will probably put the piece they cut out back in, but it seemed a bit extreme just to install an AC duct.

So...the guy came into your room, woke you up and told you to get out? I'd have been like "fuck off, I'm asleep."

No, no one told me they were going to cut it. My mom didn't know until after they had done it.

Your folks don't know the details of what is being done to their house? Whoa.

There's a hole in my bathroom ceiling cuz of all the rain we've been having...we didn't even know there was a bad spot up there. Now it smells all moldy and icky. We gotta wait 'til he's home this weekend to fix it though. Bleh.

They knew they were laying AC, but the AC guys didn't run it by my parents before they cut the hole to lay the tubes.

now i'm not the most experienced law student, but it sounds to me like you could possibly have a lawsuit on your hands
