I have regular size iPod (20GB) and find it quite annoying to use in the gym, either on the treadmill or otherwise. I have seen the one armband they make to hold a regular size iPod and it looks big enough to hold a fuckin record player.
Anyone know of or seen any alternatives - besides sitting home and continuing to be a fatass?

I have a 20GB iRiver, which came with its own pocket clip thingy. Works perfect when I go running.
It's like an elastic stretch-fit sleeve that goes around the mp3 player, and the clip fastens right on to the wasteband of my shorts.

I went for a run today at the cranberry bogs behind my house and I tried my iPod (15GB model, regular size) armband for the first time. It came with the case but I had never used it. It was working pretty well, but near the end of my run the iPod fell pretty hard into the dirt and got all dirty. Luckily it still works fine, but I'm leery to try it again.
I play golf with mine on and also work out with it. I run the headphone chord down the collar of my shirt, run it out the bottom and plug it in, it barely ever gets in the way.

I was jogging along and all of a sudden it comes flying off the clip. luckily the case has quite a bit of foam so it's padded well.

Ok, I'm an idiot. I thought you said YOU fell. Glad your iPod's ok
To answer the original question. I work out often with my IPod and found that the best way is to use the belt buckle that you can buy. Its basically a belt that goes around your waist and the IPod is inserted into a little wallet type case thats attached to the belt. The armband is a terrible invention.

i actually had the exact same thought last night about buying a new one. where used? ebay?
my girlfriend has one and i want to hijack hers but that would result in me having to purge her songs and replace them w/ mine - think she may notice.

-and thanks Barth, i might look into that too.
you can go to the apple store and they usually have used ones. they were returned after someone didn't like it or something. they're cheap.

I worked out with my iPod for a long time and never considered it an issue. I guess just because I went from my discman to a cigarette pack sized player with no disks that could fit into my shorts pocket.
On the treadmill there is a cupholder or something where the iPod can sit.
I think we're all just getting too finicky these days.

get an ipod shuffle. they're not that expensive new, and they're super small and lightweight. they've got good battery life and hold more than enough songs for a work-out.

This is what I do at a gym, and it works fine, but I prefer to run outdoors for cardio rather than on a treadmill, so in these cases it's a bit of a problem.
I'm gonna play around with the armband thing, I think I just need to secure it better and it will work well.
