Seems like many MLB teams, in recent years, have had something exciting going on around them - whether it be winning, or personal player achievements.

Examples:

Cubs - Sammy Sosa chasing the HR record a few years back, and now D. Lee chasing the triple crown.

Mariners - Recently tied the record for wins in a season, and then Ichiro Suzuki got the hits record.

Dodgers - Gagne had all those consecutive saves.

And on and on...

So, it got me thinking: Other than a new stadium, what the hell do the Pirates have going for them?

the brewers have a lot of youth and should have a good future, and the rays have some of the best prospects in the game and should be much improved in a year or two. the others have been horribly mismanaged. but yeah, i don't really understand the sentiment in the first post.

Yeah, the Pirates aren't the only horrible franchise...just the first one that came to mind.

I guess I just feel bad for them in that A.) they simply can't win, and B.) they haven't had much else exciting going on around them.

Remember when the Pirates and Royals used to be the elite? That seems crazy now

From a historical prospective I'd much rather be a Pirates fan than a Mariners fan that’s for sure.

No question, the M's have been garbage historically. But there have been some great high points of late, two of which I mentioned already.

Plus, we got to see the player of the 90's in the prime of his career here in Seattle. The Kid.
