Take a step back and look at our situation in an objective manner.
Essentially, the country is split.
However, the Republican Party now has the ability to control all decisions made (foreign and domestic).
So I ask, is there room for improvement for our current representative democracy? Is there a more effective method of representation?

Trying to be objective, I think this is not likely the chance with Bush in office.
And trying to be objective again, this is a question I think the american left wing should have asked before, instead of regularly giving up to the less evil for the whole life. Let's hope it is never too late...
But, since I'm not objective at all right now, but quite pissed, I would say that even having such chance, any better representative democracy would still represent the foolishness where foolishness rules. Don't ya think?

I don't see why there's a need for improvement. After all, this is not the first time a certain party controlled the White House, the House and the Senate. Just look back to 1992. If, after the election, you don't like something, vote for a change. If everyone agrees with you, you have a change. Just look back to 1994.
The way you change things is by voting. It's called a democracy. I don't necessarily agree that, because one party controls everything, the system is broken. It's happened before and it will happen again.

I don't think the system is broken at all.
But can it be more effective than it currently is? For instance, if the single member district/win all system was altered or discarded would it be possible for us to be less partisan and more cooperative - perhaps search for more comprimise?

I think the electoral system can be greatly improved. I think the idea of splitting the electoral votes within a state sounds interesting.
I agree with that. I think splitting the electoral votes or just abolishing the electoral college all together would be the only true way of making sure the candidate who the Americans vote for gets put into office.

Although I agree with getting rid of the electoral college alltogether, that is a little more difficult because it's in the constitution. A change to the electoral college is what I'm hoping for at this point.
