as bad as he is, he's still an upgrade over Felix Escalona.

Mark Bellhorn isn't an upgrade over anyone...he had 3 good games last postseason, and he'll always be remembered for it in Beantown, but the dude sucks

Regardless of how bad you think he is, he's better than Escalona (and Womack). Just look at the numbers.

God, how soon Red Sox fans forget one of the reasons the team they root for won the World Series last year.

haven't seen Escalona or Womack's numbers, but Bellhorn's hitting about .215 and he was on pace to challenge Rob Deer's record for strikeouts

you're kidding!

trust me, they shouldn't even be in the major leagues. Bellhorn has a higher OBP than both of them.

Womack .244 BA, 0 HR, 15 RBI, .271 OBP, 49 K's in 324 AB's

Escalona .250 BA, 0 HR, 2 RBI, .308 OBP, 4 K's in 23 AB's

Bellhorn .216 BA, 7 HR (that seems high) 28 RBI (that does too), .328 OBP, 109 K's in 283 AB's

outside of the home runs, I really don't see it being that much of an upgrade, though Bellhorn is very good at turning the double play

Ignore the batting average and look at the OBP.

And please don't say Bellhorn's isn't that much better than Escalona. Felix only has 12 AB's on the season, and has a career OBP of .250 in 200 career AB's. This isn't even a debate.

Even if nothing else comes of the signing, for me, it will suffice to see this Red Sox fan's reaction to Mark Bellhorn in his new uniform:

you guys are actually fighting over who is better: bellhorn or womack or escalona? isn't that like arguing would you rather have a needle stuck in your eye or a punch in the balls...none of them are an ideal second baseman.

I was all set to root for him on the A's too because I love the guy but this Yankee thing is a quite a turn of events.

Hopefully he gets the standing O he deserves when he returns to Fenway he'll always be a crucial member of the WS team.
