"The demonstrations will also demand an end to US "threats" against North Korea, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba and an to the "colonial-style occupation in Palestine and in Haiti," the group said. "

Meanwhile, N. Korea continued it's buildup of nuclear stockpiles, while over 2,000,000 of its own people died of hunger and malnutrition in the past 5 years. Also today, Iran announced it was continuing the development of nuclear technology for purposes wholely unrelated to the development of nuclear weapons. Iran also announced today the execution of 10 journalists for questioning the motives of the Supreme Council, and the execution of 20 women for leaving their homes without the proper head dress or for trying to drive an automobile.

And ya know, Haiti was doing just fantastic before the Marines arrived.

Maybe its just me, but I find that usually, the connections between War and Racism are tenuous at best. If they became an umbrella group for all 'progressive' causes, or if they just chose between War or Racism, I could take them more seriously.

I'd really like to see this group narrow its focus down to less than 15 items.

Answer is a Socialist network, it uses the words "racism" and "anti-war" to gain legitamacy when what it really means is "anti-capitalist" and "anti-progress". Google them, you will be surprised what you learn.

I have participated in many demonstrations with this group and they are a great organization. I don't see them as having an alternate agenda other than the anti-war/ anti-racism message. However, if capatilism, progress, or whatever (fill in the blank) involves compromising the civil rights of human beings, occupying other countries, or ensuring that the poverty levels in this world continue to go unaddressed, then yes, they would be considered to be those things.

What about the compromising of civil rights in places like Iran, China, North Korea, and otehr places that they say we ought to keep our noses out of because we're "racists"? I don't think we should be starting wars around the world either, but those places fucking suck, and any group that puts them on the same level as us is fucked.

While ANSWER's connections between the two may very well be tenuous at best, I think one of (if not the most) major reasons for war or conflict these days is discrimination between ethnicities or religions. Just look at Israel vs. the Arabs, several African conflicts, India vs. Pakistan, and maybe in the near future (if not now), Sunnis vs. Shiites vs. Kurds in Iraq.
