Alright so a bit of a problem has arisen this morning. One of my best friends is getting married on Saturday, with the reception obviously being that night and likely running early into the morning. Now my girlfriend got a call from her family in Ottawa this morning informing her that her step-grandmother had died. The funeral will be on Sunday (not sure what time). She obviously wants to be able to attend both functions and the only way to do so will be to take a flight at 5:45am on Sunday morning to Ottawa. I don't need to attend the funeral, but this still presents a problem for me. Someone is going to have to drive my girlfriend to the airport at 4-4:30am in order to catch her flight. There really isn't anyone else who can drive her besides me. But I want to be able to celebrate with one of my closest friends on the night of his wedding.

The way i see it i have a few options. I could:

A) Go to bed early, not drink very much and drive her to the airport.
B) Party like i had planned on, and MAYBE get 2 hours of sleep and drive to the airport half drunk/hungover.
C) Let her borrow my car, which leaves me carless for 1-2 days.
D) Tell her to take a cab, which will cost about $80 round trip.

Most of these options leave me looking like an asshole so i'm stuck in a real tight place. Under any other circumstance i would choose A but this is a bit different, and i doubt i'll be able to moderate myself well enough to be of any use at 4am  .

The answer is NOT "D".

It would depend on whether i was still drunk, or merely hungoever. Hungover wouldn't be a problem, but it will probably be a half hour drive each way, not something i'd want to do drunk.

Btw, now she's not talking to me because i reminded her of the reception party that i planned on attending. She called me a "selfish unsupportive drunk". I was thinking "you say that like it's a bad thing!"

Anyways if this bullshit keeps up, the answer will become D. And i may soon become 'single' MF.

Wait, she's not going to the wedding reception? Dude, do whatever she's doing and just drive her to the airport. Otherwise, you're going to be the dude who dumped some girl b/c her grandmother's death got in the way of your party. Not a good dude to be.

MF, here is what you do:

Tell the GF your not going to get drunk, that you're going to enjoy the ceremony and reception and celebrate life. Then when you get there, get loaded...I mean beligerant...make sure you get al least 2 hours of sleep, but pound water befor eyou go to bed....

You'll wake up and take her. Don't complain how you feel. Take her to the airport and drop her off. There is nothing she can say to you. ou did everything by the book.

Regards,
Waxy

No i meant that she would be the one to dump me. And she'll be at the reception, but she has a habit of leaving parties early, and this one should be no exception, and there is no way in hell i'm leaving early.
Anyways i don't want to be an asshole, but she's turning me into an asshole because something that is important to me conflicts with something that is important to her. Hence the dilemma.

Dude, you're comparing your wanting to get drunk at the reception to the death of her grandmother, like you disagree on what movie to see??

Even if she's the one that dumps you, you can't avoid being the asshole in this situation.

Attend the reception, have a few drinks, leave when she leaves, drive her in the morning. Anything other than that is just about whether you're a HUGE asshole or just a standard asshole.

Excuse me folks - solution maker coming through.

Get shitfaced at the wedding.

Have HER drive to the airport.

Sleep for a couple of hours in the parking lot after she takes off.

Drive home SOBER and crash for the rest of the day.

Don't be a dick and drive drunk/slightly drunk, or there could be more funerals to attend.

And as has been said earlier, be careful what you say/do around your girl at this trying time - or no pooty for you.
