if griffey, over the four years he was hurt and wasn't playing full time, averaged 40 homers a year, he'd have 661 right now.
his last full year, 2000, he hit 40 homers in 145 games.
in 1999, he hit 48 homers in 160 games.
so i'd say 40 is a fair average.

he's also been through many injuries prior to this recent stretch, you need to give credit where it's due. he also isn't juicing nearly as much as bonds, did, does and will. bonds is a homerun hitter, griffey is an all around player. he was out of the league for so long i think we forget what he may have been like if would have got in a groove earlier in his career, defensively, he's not too shabby either.

i'll give him credit, but he would be about 40 homers behind bonds. and bonds being a homerun hitter doesn't have much to do with griffey staying healthy.

the difference i see is that the kingdome was about 312 down the rightfield line, and candlestick was about 328 or so.

man, i think that would be great for the game if that was the case, having a race like that, but how much longer would Griffey's career last?? or I guess the question would be, how long would Bonds' last. then there would be some serious steroid bashing if they found Griffey clean of performance enhancing drugs or even more criticizing if they found them both dirty.
