Couple Posed As FPL Workers To Steal During Katrina Power Outage
http://www.local6.com/news/4918262/detail.html

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- A man and a woman posing as Florida Power & Light workers checking electricity in the wake of Hurricane Katrina stole jewelry and $18,000 in cash from an elderly woman, police said.

The man wore a yellow vest and had a clipboard when he asked the 73-year-old widow to let him and his partner into her house Thursday, police said.

While she went from room to room checking lights, they stole the woman's wedding ring, other jewelry, and a lock box containing the cash from a bedroom, police said.

"The elderly woman was traumatized twice," police spokesman Capt. Tony Rode said. "Once with the impending hurricane coming, and then again by a distraction theft."

Police said the impostors also stole from at least two other elderly people Thursday in Hollywood.

An FPL spokesman said employees carry photo identification badges, and would not show up unannounced.

"We don't go to a customer's home unless they call us," Bill Swank said.

Elsewhere, looters stole 28 weapons Thursday from a Miramar pawn and gun shop after tearing off the store's metal door and cutting an alarm, according to the Broward County Sheriff's office. They also took $100,000 worth of electronics and lawn equipment, officials said.

"It was obviously very well planned," said sheriff's spokeswoman Elizabeth Calzadilla-Fiallo.

Well, a week. It's not a stretch to think people are going lose power during ANY hurricane.

This reminds me of those piece of shit people who were claiming they'd lost loved ones on 9/11 to get money. They should reserve a nice place in hell for these types.

They should be shot or stabbed in the stomach and then left in a room so they can bleed to death in peace.

Can we merge these into one "Looting/Opportunist Crime" thread?
