Second, I don't live in one of those states that banned gay marriage, so why on earth would I defend it? When senators were running all over the country saying "Let the states decide" I guess they meant it and the states decided. Are you saying you want to deny the will of the citizens of 11 states?

Yes, that's it. They are afraid of gay people. How hard is it to grasp that some people don't agree with homosexuality? It isn't exactly something that has been widely accepted for years and years. Everyone wants people to just change their beliefs they've had all their lives because they should be able to do what they want. Homosexuality isn't going to be accepted overnight.
