I was hoping to return this afternoon and start this thread to hype how the Dawgs are back on track.
Obviously, that's not the case. So, the rest of you can feel free to discuss how the University of Washington's football program has fallen further, faster, than any other program ever.

we already had some discussion about it in the "collge football is back" thread.
head on over with your head hanging in shame.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the Georgia Bulldogs.
I talked about this with Satan's Taco before the Vancouver show. He and his friends went to UGA...which is a much older school than UW...however, neither of us knew how long their mascot has been the Bulldog.
UW had at least two other nicknames before settling on Huskies. One of the people from UGA said they thought it may have been the Goats before it became the Bulldogs.
Anyway...can anyone help out here? I think UW has been the Huskies for about 100 years now, whereas they've been playing football for 115 years. How long has UGA been the Bulldogs?
Furthermore, who gets credit for the nickname being spelled "Dawgs"? The UGA guy thought it may be because people from the south, with their southern drawl accents, may have inspired it because of the way they pronounce the word "dogs". I was thinking maybe that UW did it because it has the letter "W".

Anyone?
Southerners pronounce dogs as "dahgs." "Dawgs" is more of a New York / northeastern thing.

I think the word "dawg" is pronounced similarly to "drawl"...with the same drawn out "aw" sound. So at this point, I would lean toward agreeing with the guy from Georgia. However, without conclusive evidence, I'm still giving UW the credit...

OK, I won't post in this thread until we win again.
We may be looking at the longest time between thread bumps in RM history here folks. This team is just plain bad.

Yea I found out that Georgia officially became the Bulldogs in the 1920's because of their close association with Yale. The started plaing football in the late 1800's though.
As for the "Dawgs" I have no idea and cant find shit about it but since Georgia is far and away the best Dawgs ill say that they are the original.
