This guy is the greatest clutch hitter I've seen in the last 10 years at least. The guy delivers time and again. How awesome was that tonight, he jacks a walk-off to beat Anaheim -- a very good team -- and then 10 minutes later the Yankees fall to 4-10 on the season against those oh-so-tough Tampa Devil Rays, falling four back in the process.

good times :D

first of all, what the hell happened to your avatar? Second of all, there is such thing as clutch hitting. Mr. stats himself Bill James has updated his almanac and now concedes that there is such a thing.

nah, not really. he concedes that relying on year to year correlations is the wrong way to go about disproving clutch ability. at least that's all i've seen him say about it.

Regardless of what stat freaks say, though, i do believe in clutch play. I have seen players that get the job done time and time again in big spots and Ortiz is right at the top of that list.

ortiz gets the job done at all times, not just "big spots," whatever you mean by that.

i agree, this can go back and forth and get very heated with no decisions or progress made on other side. I guess what I'm saying is that I love to know he's coming up with the game on the line ... period.

Yeah. Sorry Mitch, but it's pretty weak as avatars go. Can't we at least get the Cowboys' star or something? How 'bout The Playmaker?

Whatever you think about "clutch hitting", Ortiz is the best at getting the big hit when needed, nobody is or was better than this man. Deal with it.
