And we're going over a story by James Agee, which is entitled "A mother's Tale." A very interesting story, with some very heavy existential themes when a guy raises his hands and asks the teacher why the past two stories, (this one and Sunny's Blues by James Baldwin) are, in their own separate ways critiquing religion. This caught me off guard because, only two weeks into class and he seems to be getting defensive about his own beliefs and what not, I think this class could be very interesting.

Haha I had this one religion class where this Muslim kid would challenge everything the teacher said. It would get ridiculously funny sometimes... turns out the kid wasn't even Muslim though, and he was gay.

This sounds like one of those stories you tell to the doctor, but instead of revelaing yourself you say "Ummm, I have this friend....."

What a turn of events.
It was, because everyday he would ramble on about the Muslims in Iraq suffering. And he acted like the most heterosexual guy in the known universe. Very weird in the end.

Indeed, the teacher seems to get lost once or twice every class period but I have a good feeling about the class and I can't wait to go over the work of Chekhov and James Joyce, the masters of the short story in my opinion.

the three best signs that it will be a good class:
-an average teacher
-good reading material
-one kid who stirs argument
you seem to have it
