I was talking with one of my buddies today who is one of these 'PC types,' and he was telling me about all of the instances of racism in our culture today... how white people continue to repress blacks, to an extent that rivals the way it was 50 years ago (yes... he said that).

Anyway, we got onto the topic of interracial marriage and he tried to make the point that white and black people don't get married because white people inherently think black people are 'below' them, hence rendering their interest in a mixed relationship dead.

My problem with this was that not only are there mixed couples out there (to which he replies: "all exceptions"), but that one of the reasons white and black people aren't married as much was because of the cultural differences. Not necessarily economic differences, but we're just raised to like and appreciate different things. I personally know several black women, but I would/could never date them because we're nothing alike... it's just the way we've been raised and the culture we were brought up in.

He then made the point that it's racist to assume that they're so different without ever dating them. At that point I cut him off and told him to leave me alone.

So anyway, I guess I wanted to bring this topic to everybody else... what do you think about it?

To be perfectly honest, I'd feel a little bit weird dating a black chick. Not to say I wouldn't do it...but, yeah, a bit weird.

I went out on two dates with a half black/half Hispanic chick once. She had blue-green eyes, tan skin, slender body, just gorgeous. She'd even modeled for a JC Penny catalog. We hit it off and I knew we would have got along famously, but she moved rather suddenly.

She had absolutely nothing to do with a so-called "racial culture." None of the out-of-race chicks I've dated (or at least crushed on) have.

I've met black people that I have lots in common with, but I think it's a fair (and not racist) thing to say that someone is less likely to find common interests with someone of another race than with someone of their own race, mostly because things like race, culture, and socio-economic status are so closely related.

When it becomes racist is when you assume that it's true in all cases and treat people accordingly. For example, "I don't date black people because we're not going to have anything in common."

You're friend's an idiot, but there are SOME white people who view black people as "below" them. They're called the KKK.

My dad's family has been completely shattered by my backwards-assed grandfather choosing to hate black people, even though his granddaughters are married to black men.

race doesn't exist. it's pretty stupid to think skin pigmentation is a determinant of pretty much anything.
