OK, we've argued about this plenty of times before, but I'd like to add a new twist to the conversation.

For good reason, hockey is not wildly popular in this country. I, for one, am on board with that sentiment as a non-hockey fan. I also think that other sports such as golf, tennis, and (especially) car racing are lame and boring to watch.

The sports that I have mentioned above have all had females compete against males at the professional level and either win, or at least perform very well.

Like many other Americans, my favorite sports to watch are football, basketball, and baseball. And I'm telling you, the day a woman steps onto the field, court, or diamond with the men at the professional level (NFL, NBA, MLB) and turns the sport into a damn joke is the day I stop watching.

I would only agree with you that my favorite sports to watch are football, baseball and basketball. The fact that women, if they were good enough to compete, were involved, would not bother me. Sorry guy, I think your post is pretty lame

Phew.

I was just pointing out that it's garbage that a chick has the pole in the next NASCAR race. What a joke. Another reason why car racing is a borderline "sport."

Well put.

Plus, Bammer, when did a female ever experience success in the NHL? Manon Rheaume playing in the pre-season for an expansion team, while I consider it quite an accomplishment, isn't even the regular season. Hayley Wickenheiser is possibly the greatest female hockey player ever and she managed to play tier-two hockey in Finland... again a great accomplishment... but it's FAR from NHL calibre... it's about three levels below the NHL.

Good try though.

All I know is that an NHL team had a female goalie on their roster.

that chick is so fugly... if she was just some broad walking down the street, people wouldnt look twice... but she happens to race cars, though to me that's about as much a turn-on as a girl who chews tobacco...ewww

A concern should be based on the message that is sent when a talented female athlete crosses over to play with the men. What does this say to the rest of the women competing in the women's league?

Women's sports needs the talented athltetes as the standard to which the lesser talented women can aspire.

Think of how Tiger Woods has raised the games of many golfers on the PGA tour.

a better reason is that they can't come CLOSE to competing with men on a competitive level... not even close... and sorry, but car racing has proven that it doesnt take much of an athlete when a woman is competing in their sport
