I was walking past a soon to be cafe at my home train station and they nwere having a job fair. People were interviewing, filling out paperwork etc. I am walking by what appears to be 2 people reviewing a list of potential employees when the woman turns to the guy and says "he's too short". I didn't hear what was said before or after because I was walking by but it kind of baffled me.

Big and Tall model?
No, it was for employees for this cafe that is opening right there. They were all sitting outside at tables because they are doing construstion inside.

uh, maybe he was short, and they are discrimintory?
I've been to plenty of places, Mona Lisa in Eugene comes to mind, where all the waiters have a certain look. You know that they're discriminating against perfectly qualified people, but no one takes them to court over it, so it just keeps happening.

Maybe the guy was only 6 inches tall.
You can't serve stuff in a timely manner if you're that small.

When my dad finished his stint with Air America in the 60s, he tried to get a job as a commercial airline pilot, but back then (and maybe now too for all i know) he was told that pilots had to be a certain height, not to operate the plane, which he was perfectly capable of doing, but because it instills a sense of security in the passengers to see someone big and tall piloting the plane. Pretty fucking stupid.

Isn't it amazing how the prettiest girl in the restaurant is always the one who shows you to your seat. She's usually got the best butt too, so you have good scenery while walking to your table.
It get's the guy hot early in the evening, so the sex with his date is better later, and he subconsciously thinks, "That was a great restaurant, we have to go back there again."

Makes sense. I like my waiters to make me feel secure. With a short one.....I just don't know.

Anyone ever see that Lewis Black stand-up special on Comedy Central? There was a bit about how people get anurisims (sp?) and he over heard a woman in a store say "If it werent for my horse, I never would have spent that year in college." This thread kind of reminds me of that....
