first, i work at a medicare-advocacy not-for-profit organization doing communications stuff. i've been here for about 2 1/2 months now. i started the job about a month after graduating from college.

my background is in journalism. this is basically an e-mail i sent to my dad about how i feel. i've wanted to quit for about a month now:

the reason i come home in a bad mood everyday is because i hate my job more than anything in the world. i'm 22-years-old. it shouldn't be this way.

i am more unhappy right now than i was when i was actually, mentally and physically, depressed back in junior year of college.

thing is, i know this job is not what i want to do, and they're dumping stuff on me thinking i'm going to be here to do it all (like this one-year long project i'm assigned to). i would feel bad right now if they continued to think i'm going to be here when all i want is out.

i can't do this work with my heart in it, and it's getting to be tough. i'm seeing it reflect on my performance. i have no desire.

i'm basically doing marketing for a left-leaning group. i am political, but i am in a sense that i want to report on the truth and be fair and balanced. how can i market something i don't agree with?

also, realize journalism is a totally different type of field. here i have bosses on my back all day telling what to do, this and that. i have meetings everyday where i have to discuss all this stuff.

i'm seriously thinking that friday i'll be giving my two weeks

i'd work FT at the deli (where i currently work saturdays, but i can easily get mroe time), of course, until i found something else. and i think i could do that quickly.

i don't know what to do.

---

i ended up speaking to my dad last night, and this is basically what he said: you're 22-years-old. you have the world by the balls. you live at home, and don't have many bills to pay. you live under my roof, i'm supporting you with food and home, and i'm fine with that. i just want you to be happy. as long as you can pay your bills, i encourage you to do whatever you want to do. you can't work somewhere doing something you hate.

people, c_b needs some advice.

if your dad is supporting you, and it sounds like he is, then you should quit and find a job that you like if that's possible.

Your old man is right. Get the fuck out...And if you have some stable (temporary) interim employment that you don't hate as much, go for that.

My question is, will your currrent position give you any relative work experience?...and if so is it wise to quit before finding another job? Prospective employers don't like to see job jumping on a resumé.

Also, as bad as you think it is...it could be worse. Have you ever worked in a call centre? The worst year and a half of my professional life was spent in a call centre. I would take just about anything over that line of work.

what if you think you're hurting the company as much as your hurting yourself? i'm pretty sure of this.

my current job gives me no relative work experience, no. in fact, it's making me a worse writer.

i also have a bunch of other things i could jump into right now, it's just really tough interviewing at other places when you have to work FT.

well here's an example of why i think i am. we have a one-year project going, and a progress report needs to be in in mid-october.

i fuckin' hate this project. i have no desire to reach out to the people that need to be spoken to. if i keep dragging this on, it'll get much worse not only for me, but for them, because it won't be done as well as it should be.

i'm way behind on right it now.
