Son of Florida Gov. Bush Arrested

The youngest son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was arrested early Friday and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, law enforcement officials said.

John Ellis Bush, 21, was arrested by agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission at 2:30 a.m. on a corner of Austin's Sixth Street bar district, said commission spokesman Roger Wade.

The nephew of President Bush was released on $2,500 bond for the resisting arrest charge, and on a personal recognizance bond for the public intoxication charge, officials said.

Wade said he had no further details about the charges.

Gov. Bush and his wife Columba appeared Friday evening at a museum reception in Miami.

"My son's doing fine. It's a private matter. We will support him. We're sad for him. But I'm not going to discuss it on the public square with 30 cameras," the governor told reporters.

It's not the first time Florida's first family has experienced legal problems with one of their children.

Noelle Bush, the governor's daughter, was arrested in January 2002 and accused of trying to pass a fraudulent prescription at a pharmacy to obtain the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. She completed a drug rehabilitation program in August 2003 and a judge dismissed the drug charges against her.

So, he won't comment on his criminal children--that's a private matter. Unlike sticking his fucking nose in Terri Schiavo's private family matter. What a fucking douche, and apparently not too good in the parenting department either.

umm the kid is 21, he's made his own choices and now has to deal with him. to blast them for their parenting would be the same if you got busted for weed and i said your parents sucked at raising you

You're right to a degree. I have a brother who's a complete fuckup and one who's a successful doctor. And we all had the same parents. I was just pissed that this guy's gonna say jack shit about private family matters after some of the things he pulled this year. But get a load of this kid!

I've seen that uncomfortable "Ooops" smile before somewhere! He's going places. I say he shows up 15 years from now a born-again Christian who's cleaned up his act, changed his ways, and is running for office.

Not to sound like I'm blindly defending the Bush family, but.....

But come on! What 21 year old kid hasn't been drunk before? He was just unlucky enough to have been caught by the cops. Lord knows there are plenty of times I probably could have been arrested, too...and it has nothing to do with bad parenting. And if you haven't been drunk before, fine. But most people have, and again, it's just unlucky for this guy that there were cops on his tail.

If he makes that argument while running for office in the future, I'll vote for him. But he won't. He'll pretend it didn't happen and call anyone who asks about it "liberal media."

this has nothing to do with me or the state of this country so i dont really give a shit....and also, any politician would have said the exact same thing so it doesnt make much sense to try to spin the evil retarded, hypocritical republican angle on this.

and the family of schiavo made it public with the struggle for life and wanting it settled in courts, while i disagree with them doing this and thought the whole situation was disgusting and terrible, its not like it was something Jeb poked his nose in there and brought it out for the public......with that logic, no one can coment on any matter seeing as how its private to those exclusively involved.

THIS i did not know....

This is the second time young Jeb--pictured in mug shot at right--has landed on a police blotter. In October 2000, Jeb, then 16, and a girlfriend were discovered naked from the waist down in a Jeep Cherokee parked at a Tallahassee mall.

this has nothing to with bad parenting, this is just a 21 year old doing what 21 year olds do.

so, this kid is getting drunk and laid... sounds like high school and college to me... good for him...

It's like a coach in high school told me, "It's not about staying out of trouble. It's about not getting caught."

And it's alright to give people cancer by forcing you smoke down their throats, but God help you if you're drunk in public not harming anyone

Just for the record, the cops don't arrest a 21 year old for JUST being drunk in public, they arrest people for being an obnoxious and/or dangerous drunk in public.
