Lesson two: Reading tabs


tabs are read as follows:

every tab line stands for one string of the uke. the tab line/uke string connection goes:

------------- a1 string (when you play right handed, the string at the bottom)
-------------e1
-------------c1
-------------g1

the numbers on the tab lines indicate the fret you have to hold down to play a certain note/ tone for example

tells you to hold down the 1st fret on the 1st string

Lesson 2.1. Open and muted strings

Playing an open string means playing a string without holding down any fret
(in tab form this would look like ---0----).
Playing muted means putting a finger on a string without holding it down so it wouldn't make a tone, but rather just a, well, muted sound (tabs: ---x---)

I... I actually play the cowbell. I have drum sticks and no drums... just cowbells. I was serious.

I learned how to play the ukelele in 5th grade, but I have since forgotten how to play, I think I should grab my ukelele so I can play along with Ed when he plays, "Soon Forget", "Can't Keep", and "Blue, Red and Grey".
