Geez, he's a freaking kicker and he get's paid to do that. Congrats.
Heroic? Nope. Not at all. Tough, sure, welcome to football. Glad his comments were about the team win. He seems like a pretty cool guy anyway. I'm more annoyed with commentators.
Donovan Mcnabb should get more props for playing through his stuff yesterday, and Brian Westbrook should be the second highest paid player on that team. I hate the Eagles, but the organization itself is very classy, especially Mcnabb.
Maybe it's just me as an outsider but watching Philly and New England it just seems like they are solid at every position and deep. I know they have weak spots namely wide receiver but thier execution on both sides of the ball is fantastic. Pittsburgh is a very close 3rd I guess. I really think those 3 are the best in the league with Indianapolis/Kansas City and thier new found defensive might 4th and 5th so that's the Electromatic power rankings I guess. Several excellent games yesterday. Too bad Randel El made that pitch it might have wound up different for the Steelers.
Janikowski really is average and kind of sucks. He is a definate first round bust.

THERE IS NO CRYING IN FOOTBALL
and it's not like he's that guy from the simpsons whose leg has detached, it's a hamstring. yeah, it hurts to kick, lets not be so incredibly melodramatic ESPN. Kerry Strug was more heroic.
To bad it wasn't Gramatica, he'd probably dance on one leg.

As I immediately said once that game is over, Akers is one tough motherfucker. But I agree that slapping the hero tag on any athlete for what he does on the field is ridiculous.

yeah, calling akers performace "heroic" is rediculous. i would say it was much more "god-like" than "heroic"
dude it's week 3, save some of that lofty praise for when there's a little more on the line
dude...GOD-LIKE
you're going to run out of superlatives. who will you compare Akers to if he makes a clutch kick in the playoffs or in bad weather? I guess there is always Vinatieri

Say what you want, but pulling your hamstring hurts like a bitch. Even though it was his non-kicking leg, the kicking motion still affects the other leg and it HURTS. Any praise Akers gets from playing hurt is well deserved. There may have been some pressure from Reid for Akers to get in there and make the kick, but I'm sure Akers wanted to be in there anyway to help his team win.
And yes, McNabb deserves some props for playing through injury to get his team in a position to win the game. I can't believe that chest shot he took in the game yesterday didn't knock him out. What a beast.

He was actually aiming the ball at a terrorist in the stands who was about to light a really long fuse on a barrel of gunpowder. So, in fact, Akers is a true hero.

even though i hate the eagles, i will give akers credit for making the kick, but jesus christ, youd think he won the super bowl the way they are talking about him on the news and sports radio in this town today.
