I have Nocturama but haven't given it a listen in quite a while.
throw it away and pick this album up. This is the nick caviest record that nick cave has put out since...well, for a long time. excellent, excellent stuff.

What over cavy albums has he made?
let love in, henry's dream, murder ballads is ok but right on the brink of craptitude.
generally the late '90s/early 00's are considered something of a dry period but anything before that is more or less good, i think. i'm certainly not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to nick cave's career.

Most critics think The Boatmans Call and No More Shall We Part are his masterpieces. I like Let Love In and the new one the most myself. I think Boatmans Call is great but you kinda have to be in the mood to listen to it. It's definitely not a rockin out cd, but it's a beautiful piece of work none the less

he got kinda...i dunno, gospely after murder ballads and until the new one (however many cds that is). There's some great, beautiful stuff on the boatman's call, but certainly not what i really go into a nick cave record looking for, if that makes sense.

the ship song gives me a feeling quite unlike... any other song does, really.

Nick Cave's albums go in this order of awesomeness. Any nonawesome albums are excluded. Anybody who says otherwise is a butt pirate.
1. Let Love In
2. No More Shall We Part
3. Lyre/Abattoir
4. The Good Son
5. Murder Ballads
6. The Boatman's Call
7. Henry's Dream
8. Tender Prey
9. Kicking Against the Pricks
Birthday Party records are ultra-cool, as well. Ye must all beg, borrow or steal the top four on that list.
I've only really listened to Abattoir/Lyre and I love it. I've downloaded a few other albums but have not given them very much attention yet. Is it common opinion that Abattoir/Lyre stands up well to the rest of their work? Because, it's fucking great.
