The Yankees will open the 2005 postseason on the road and some of them are blaming an unlikely source for that.
Rangers manager Buck Showalter.
According to a report in the New York Times, several Yankees were not pleased that Showalter pulled three of his best hitters from Sunday's game with the Angels in the third inning.
If Los Angeles had lost that game, the best-of-five series would have opened at Yankee Stadium. But the Angels earned home-field advantage for the ALDS with the 7-4 win over the Rangers.
"I just think there's a code of honor when so much is on the line," Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez said. "You hope people do the right thing, but you can't control what people do. It is what it is."
The Rangers and Angels were tied 1-1 in the third when Michael Young drew a two-out walk and was removed for a pinch-runner. Mark Teixeira followed with a run-scoring single and also gave way for a pinch-runner. Hank Blalock completed the trifecta, singling in a run, then leaving the game for yet another pinch-runner.
Texas would score four times in the inning, but would not manage another run without their three stars. Young, Teixeira and Blalock combined to go 4-for-5 in the game, but their replacements didn't manage a hit in six at-bats.
"It's surprising," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "If his team was in the playoffs, I could understand it a little bit more. It's just surprising he pulled them so soon."
According to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Showalter said he pulled Young, Teixeira and Blalock because he wanted them to get a standing ovation from the Rangers' crowd.
"Those guys posted up every day," Showalter said. "They deserved that cookie."
Not every Yankee thought Showalter was out of line. GM Brian Cashman said he had no issue with the move and placed the blame squarely on his own franchise's shoulders, saying, "If we had won one more game, we wouldn't have to be worried about what anybody else did."

Not nearly as bad as Dusty Baker pulling Nefe Perez who was 4-4 at the top of the 9th inning with a guy on 1st and nobody out for some hooligan who was 0-4 against Lidge this year.
BURN IN HELL CUBIES!!!!

On the other hand, Buck was clearly trying to stick it to the Yankees...but that's his right.
Home field advantage hasn't exactly helped them that much the last 2 years, so I don't think this is that big of a deal.

A-Rod should shut up. I don't think Torre's quote reflects much anger.
I'll bet A-Rod's comment had a little something to do with his past problems with Buck. If it was another team, he might not have said as much. Regardless, he shouldn't have said anything.

exactly...besides, if they beat the Angels, they'll have home field for the Red Sox series anyways
talk about looking past Chicago!

Chicago doesn't even belong in the playoffs if you ask me...they're very lucky Cleveland took 2 1/2 months to wake up...as bad as the Red Sox are (and they'll lose in 5 to the Yankees), they should still blow away Chicago...
I know this...if I were a Yankees fan, I'd trade the AL East title for a chance to face Chicago instead of Anaheim in round 1

Wow, what a complainer, he really is crying there huh?
I was listening to the game on the Radio and the broadcasters would not shut up about what Buck was doing with his players. Truly sad, who gives a fuck, I hope Buck did it in spite of the Yankees.
Just one more reason to hate this overpaid, bitch slapping, and complaining team, take care of your own business and you wouldn't have to worry about opening on the road. If opening at home is so important to them, than why did they let the Sox mop the floor with them. Joe was changing pitchers every batter, and ending up taking out half of the lineup. If they win yesterday, they get homefield.
It actually would be funny as hell if he did it to spite the Yankees. But, how many managers throw games? Seriously?
well, he's not exactly a fan of George. that's why most people think he may have done it on purpose. Doesn't matter...like I said earlier, the Yankees should shut up.
