So,

Lets hear everyone's thoughts on what may happen upon Arafat's death.

What do you guys see as the future for the PLO and that region?

i wish he would just die already...

i'm hoping with his death someone will come to power and try harder to patch relations with israel....someone who might try to ignore old, old rivalries...not gonna happen though..

The guy wants to be buried in Jerusalem, and Sharon and friends are saying no, no, no, and.... no.

So the Palestinians say they're ready to compromise and suggested a site overlooking the Al-Aqsa mosque slash Temple Mount, and the Israelis are still saying no, just bury him in Gaza.

You'd think they would have exhausted just about everything worth fighting over by now, but nooooooo, they're arguing over where they can dump a dead body. Gawd.

I agree. That is ridiculous on the part of Israel.

Which is made that much more ridiculous by the fact that he's still alive. And off the life support machines now, apparently.

In all fairness to Israel, you can't have a shrine to a terrorist on the Temple Mount.

why is it ridiculous?
That is like letting Al Queda put Osama Bin Ladens dead body in central park

Well, to me, it would be similarly outrageous to the Palistinians for Sharon to be buried in Jeruselem.

NYC belongs to New Yorkers and the US, so bin Laden's burial there would be ridiculous.

However, you cannot draw the same parallel to that of Arafat in Jeruselem, since that city pretty much belongs to BOTH Israel and the Palistinians.

Why not bury him where they bury other people in Jerusalem? I guess maybe I'm not too familiar with Jerusalem, but does it have to be on the Temple Mount? Why not somewhere else in Jerusalem?

come on....who do think really controls jeruselem?

Arafat has been a terrorist for years. He had many chances to make peace but he continued the hatred. He had a chance to bring peace to his people but he picked hate....

Unlike New York, Jeruselem has changed hands numerous times and to my knowledge has both Palistinians and Israelis present in the city.

I do not think this issue is as black and white as most think it is.

Also, mighty Israel has not been a saint all of these years either. Arafat has done things wrong, but Israel has hardly always been right.

If ever the phrase "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" could be summed up by one person, it's Arafat. I think it's dead wrong to compare Arafat to OBL. One guy fought for the creation of a state, whether you think that's legitimate or not, while the other just destroys and destroys.

My main point here is that the Palestinians have offered a compromise in suggesting a site overlooking the site, which is equally holy to both sides, and the Israelis have still given a resounding no. Personally, I couldn't give a rats arse if they just dumped his body in the mosque without covering it, or if they fed it to the dogs. My beef is with the Israelis' refusal to compromise.

Exactly what I was going to say...

Ignorance in the US over what's going on in the Middle East is just astounding. You hear people say things like:

"Palestinians deny the right of Israel to exist!!!! Therefore Palestinians must die!!!"

Uh, OK. Let's conveniently forget that there actually was a Palestinian state existing before it got displaced by an Israeli one thanks to the US and UK.

The State Department labelled Nelson Mandela as "one of the more notorious terrorists" globally at one point.

When it comes to national liberation movements... one place not to seek counsel from is the US.

Why doesn't he die already?

Why doesn't Sharon get indicted for war crimes already? Ever heard of Sabra and Shatila?

Didn't think so. Idiots.

Ok, so if Isreal oks the burial in Jersusalem, but the terror doesnt stop, whatya do.

I would dig up the body. And make the body hold an Isreali and American flag as a statue for a few days.
