In the wake of Mike Shula's second big time player lost in garbage time of a huge win, what are your thoughts?

Tyrone Prothro incase you are living in a cave is an unbelievable talent at WR for Alabama who whipped Urban Meyers Gators back into last century the past weekend.

QB Brodie Croyle was injured in garbage time and out for the year last year now college FB fans are again robbed in the 4th quarter with a severe fracture of Prothro's leg. Game ball to Shula to getting the team ready to kill Florida, maybe he just dosen't like playing the scrubs either way losing a guy like Prothro sucks for all of us as he was an amazing talent to watch.

It makes me sick and i'm no even an Alabama fan. Throwin a bomb when your team is up 31-3 with 8 minutes left in the game is retarded. Prothro was by far the best player on their team, no way can they replace them. They just cost themselves a decent shot at the national championship game with that stupid call. Shula is a fucking moron

Exactly what I thought. It's 31-3 and Florida was awful all game. The defense was tremendous, why throw that pass?

I'm not a Bama fan either, but I really liked watching that kid play.

I didn't see the Ala-Fla game, but I say pulling your stars depends on the situation. At what point is a game out of reach? 28 points with 8 minutes, probably out of reach. But my second team is going to be running the same plays, and if they score then they score. If you can't stop the other team, that's not their fault.

I have no problem with scoring there is no place for whiney BS about running the score up in professional (yes professional NCAA) sports, never never change what you are doing that's working, it's just when you are demolishing the other team why are you consistantly putting your best players out there risking injury in that very situation. I know they have other guys to throw to besides Prothro. Now they are going to have to find them unfortunately.

I don't think Alabama will lose much on offense. They have a very good set of receivers. The place where it will hurt them most is special teams. He is an outstanding punt returner.

But to the question, I would agree that shula should have put in some second or third stringers at that point. I didn't get to watch the second half due to the Auburn game starting, but my Bama friends say that florida was hitting late and killing Darby when he ran up the middle to run out the clock. They were questioning why Darby was in the game just before the Prothro injury.

we have a little depth at receiver..but man does this hurt us..he catches everything and is a huge threat on special teams...i wish him and brodie both hadn't been in the game, especially with brodie's injury history...when i made a comment about how i thought both of them shoulnd't have been in, another bama fan said that we needed our starters in to keep the momentum going, and to look at the lsu tennessee game the other night as to what could have possibly happened to bama...i just don't agree with that, our D had leak confused all game..the only reason he even got 200 yards is cause we just started playing soft, letting them catch the short stuff..i doubt our D would have given up 4 touchdowns in 9 minutes..to me, this was a very very bittersweet victory

well yeah, and hind site is 20/20 and Bama has to stick behind Shula for the time being I know, if there's no injury there's little talk at all about it, but it still sucks for everyone to lose a guy like Prothro.

I don't really have a problem with receivers playing that late in a game. My point was that you should probably think about pulling Darby or Brodie before anyone.

You cannot simulate game speed or wear and tear during practice. So far 4 of 5 Auburn games have been over at the half. But you need to play the starters longer so that the next weeks against Ark. or LSU your players don't wear out because they are use to only playing 3 quarters.

But then as a coach you open yourself up to criticism for playing your starters too long.

yeah, but bama is off this week..and prothro's not really just a receiver..he's our key on special teams..he's line up at qb, ran the ball, done everything for us..with 9 minutes to go we should just be running the clock down anyway...i'd want him and croyle out before anyone
