well on moday of this week, it was 80 degrees here, and the last 2 nights it got to 40. big difference.

my girlfriend and i are trying to hold out until november until we turn on the heat. in march, our last big gas bill was $280. we have a house, and both floors are controlled by one thermostat.

anyone else holding out?

i try to wait as late as possible. and thats hard because my girlfriend is always complaining shes cold. i just throw an extra blanket on the bed and tell her to shut up.

I've been more inclined to fire up the wood stove than crank the heat. We did just get a new furnace installed courtesy of our home warranty that should be a little more efficient than the old one. Our gas bill has never been anywhere near yours though.

your lucky. we live in an old house that we rent off her grandparents, so our rent is low, otherwise it would be brutal to live here in the winter. if it ever ends up being ours though, some serious revamping is in order.

There are some cheap, effective ways to help winterize your house. My buddy gets this plastic stuff that goes around the windows in the winter time. It's hardly noticeable too. Also, you should close the vents off in rooms that you don't use too often, especially with two stories on one thermostat. Yikes!

We have a pretty big house, and I like it cold, so we usually just wait until its unbearably freezing before turning on the heat.

I'm gonna try to go all of this winter without using any heat. Maybe I'll even crack a window.

i have an old drafty two story townhouse, and the top floor never heats or cools, but the air conditioner or heater will run pretty much all the time. i think i'll be leaving it off for the most part and only turning it on to warm up the downstairs when i'm down here. i'm alright with wearing layers and having blankets around. it's 66 in here and it's not too bad.

The temperature in my house has been hovering around 78-80, so it's not necessary yet. I have a feeling that the cold will set in quickly, though

I live on the top floor of my building so I really never have to turn on any heat. Therefore my electric bill plummets during the Winter months!:thumbsup:

Im not, I have heated floors in my apt. and they dont cost much. Although my Mom said yesterday she plans on waiting until November.

I have an old house as well, which is pretty big, so I shut the upstairs off in the winter. I have been collecting wood for the last month or so, and got a pretty good stock pile going, because I dont plan on purchasing any oil this winter. I have a wood burning stove in my basement that blows the air up throw the ducts to all the rooms downstairs. Youd be amazed how good it warms my house.

Does anyone else love sawing, chopping, and collecting firewood as much as I do? I love picking out the right trees to cut, the process of hauling it all home, splitting it up, dividing it up in different size categories, and neatly stacking under my carport. Such great exercise in the wintertime as well!

We fired up the furnace here on Friday, but it's not going to be set above 65 ever, and turned off as much as possible. My wife likes to be virtually nude around the house. Unfortunately, that will have to stop.

we have a woodstove...it stays nice and warm here with very little increase in costs
