because they took advantage of the stupidest idea the NHL has ever come up with. It's like having a field goal kicking contest to decide football games.

I sorta like the shootouts...sure my leafs have lost both.
But, the leafs are gonna be alright...they are taking ottawa (who everyone claims will win the cup) to the limit. Kaberle looked fantastic tonight.

so really, its not like a field goal contest at all, its like a shoot out they would use anywhere else in the world?
your logic has reduced my hyperbole to shambles.
all right, im just an angry leafs fan. but still some team is gonna be knocked out of the playoffs by virtue of not succeeding in a couple of shootouts over the course of the season, and this unfair. points should be awarded based on your hockey skill as a TEAM. and i actually dont think shootouts should be used in the olympics either

So then that TEAM should win the game in regulation or during the overtime period.

While I love the drama of the shoot-out, I'm also not a fan. Yeah, ties suck, but I've left games where I was happy with my team fighting back to earn one.

seriously those were two hard fought games where a tie was the right result for the regular season. tons of lead changes in both games, a tie was well-deserved by both teams. to award an extra point to a team based on a shootout crosses the line from making the game more exciting to pandering to the mentality of dumbass americans (a la the old fox puck) who dont even care that much about hockey anyway.
and by the way, lindros is looking pretty damn good

I think one of the primary reasons for the shoot-outs is to pander to the American crowd. We love our cut & dry decisions, and our sudden death OTs. In some ways, I can't blame the NHL. After the shit they pulled with the lockout/strike, they desperately need as many fans and TV viewers as they can get. They didn't fuck with the major rules too much, so I won't complain a lot.

hey man, id be mad if i had eric lindros on my team too.
Eric Lindros=best value in the nhl.
i didnt know the leafs werent paying him
lindors has 4 points in three games.
at some point this season you will say the same words, but replace "points" with "concussions".
i still have love for this guy. i remember the days when he would score 2 goals and then win a fight after body checking 4 people to the ice. however, those days were 10 years ago. i hope he keeps his head up this year

I'm with you. Anyone counting on Lindros to be the difference in their team has to hold their breath until about March.

Too bad they completely screwed the pooch with their TV deal. Bettman needs to go.
