I just wanted to start this in case Bernie never plays for the Yankees again. Post your favorite memories and/or pictures of Bernie. I'll try to post some later since I have a ton of work to do at the moment.
I always hated seeing him come up to bat in the late 90's-early 00's because it seemed like he always came up with the big hit, especially in the playoffs. I'll always hate him because he was a Yankee, but I respect him.
Bernie Williams was a great player. He flew under the radar for a long time. It was only recently that people started taking notice to the numbers he has put up in the yankee uniform. He's pretty much right there with some of the great yankees of the past. He always kept to quiet, but came through. I would have liked to see him retire as a yankee. Seeing him in another uniform will be odd. Who knows?..maybe he will retire. I think he deserves a plaque in monument park. see ya bernie
if this was the end for him in pinstripes, then he had a hell of a career. He had some HUGE postseason hits, including walkoff home runs against the Orioles and Red Sox. Not to mention his mad dash home in 96 after Todd Zeile took a relay throw home and threw the ball directly into the ground.
from 96-02, he posted a 900+ OPS each year...3-4 more seaons like that, and maybe he would have gotten some support for the HOF. He also didn't get really good until his late 20's, a late start that kept him from making a run at 3,000 hits.
However, four rings and getting his number retired is a nice consolation prize.

Nice to crash the party. It actually is not his overall fielding that deteriorated it was his throwing arm. He still got to enough balls and covered enough ground.

He covered enough ground for a softball league

the guy had a run of i think 8 straight years hitting over .300 thats impressive.....he never had a good throwing arm so i dont know why people talk about how it diminished........he just lost a step(like most non steriod users do) and bernie should be well thanked and appreciated by all yankee fans and hope they can find another center fielder that can do what he did for 15 years in yankee pinstripes
As a Red Sox fan, I never wanted to see this guy up in a big spot...he was the Yankees version of Ortiz for a few years there
He's a classy all around guy and a hell of a ballplayer
the Sox came VERY close to signing him after 1998. The Yanks were prepared to sign Albert Belle and let Bernie go to Boston.

i think bernie was just using boston to get more money outta george
true, but the Yanks were prepared to let him leave once he got Boston's offer. They even called Torre and asked him how he would feel if Belle came to the team.

If that went down, man, talk about a competely different team, plus, having Belle on the Yankees would have made it even easier to despise them, happy Bernie did stay

I always liked Bernie, except when he kept hitting home runs in the 96 and 97 American League Championship series. Quiet guy, humble, great player. I hope the Yankees give him a job somewhere next year he wants to stay there. I wonder if he'd take a backup role. If not I can see the Orioles signing him a la Joe Carter.
