Nurses sacked for premature baby photos
13 October 2005

WARSAW: Two Polish nurses were sacked for removing a premature baby from an incubator to pose with it in photographs.

Two Polish newspapers on Wednesday published the photos, taken during a night shift, in which the smiling women hold up a crying baby – who fits easily into a nurse's two hands – with tubes still dangling from its nose.

One photograph shows a nurse tucking the baby into the pocket of her smock.

"The women were suspended immediately after we found out and we are in the process of dismissing them ... we have also informed the prosecutors," said Anna Kidawa, spokeswoman for the maternity and paediatric hospital in Katowice, southern Poland.

She said it was impossible to identify the baby in the photos but so far there was no indication that any patient had suffered permanent harm from the nurses' treatment.

I don't have any.....I don't have to HAVE a kid to feel bad for one. In the context of what the nurses were doing the picture certainly is not funny. I am just saying the picture itself made me laugh. I'm sorry but its funny to me. The story is not funny, the kid being made a fool of is not funny, the picture is funny.
