http://www.nba.com/news/player_dress_code_051017.html

1. General Policy: Business Casual

Players are required to wear Business Casual attire whenever they are engaged in team or league business.

"Business Casual" attire means

# A long or short-sleeved dress shirt (collared or turtleneck), and/or a sweater.
# Dress slacks, khaki pants, or dress jeans.
# Appropriate shoes and socks, including dress shoes, dress boots, or other presentable shoes, but not including sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, or work boots.

2. Exceptions to Business Casual

There are the following exceptions to the general policy of Business Casual attire:

a. Players In Attendance At Games But Not In Uniform

Players who are in attendance at games but not in uniform are required to wear the following additional items when seated on the bench or in the stands during the game:

# Sport Coat
# Dress shoes or boots, and socks

b. Players Leaving the Arena

Players leaving the arena may wear either Business Casual attire or neat warm-up suits issued by their teams.

c. Special Events or Appearances

Teams can make exceptions to the Business Casual policy for special events or player appearances where other attire is appropriate -- e.g., participation in a basketball clinic.

3. Excluded Items

The following is a list of items that players are not allowed to wear at any time while on team or league business:

# Sleeveless shirts
# Shorts
# T-shirts, jerseys, or sports apparel (unless appropriate for the event (e.g., a basketball clinic), team-identified, and approved by the team)
# Headgear of any kind while a player is sitting on the bench or in the stands at a game, during media interviews, or during a team or league event or appearance (unless appropriate for the event or appearance, team-identified, and approved by the team)
# Chains, pendants, or medallions worn over the player's clothes
# Sunglasses while indoors
# Headphones (other than on the team bus or plane, or in the team locker room)

So why don't they present themselves like him?

Guess they don't have a choice now.

I imagine this will go over like a fart in church.

If I were an NBA player, I'd feel condescended to, and I'd suspect that race and class biases may have played a role in this. Now, I assume the union approved this, but can you imagine such a thing for the NHL? Really?

I challenge someone to show me a picture of someone in the NHL who dresses like this.

I had no problems with players wearing what they wanted, but I also have no problem with the NBA instituting a dress code because they have the right to.

I'm all for it. They're paid enough that I think asking them to look professional isn't too much to ask.

A sport that has forever based itself on individual image and "superstars" reverting a repressive, needless, superficial "collective" is ridiculous, and borderline racist.

whitey wants to feel "safe" with the nice young colored's dressing in a non threatening, non thug like way.

Gee Willikers Massuh David Stern, youz no wants me to wearza my sunday clothes?

Me personally? I dont give a fuck. However, i think repressing anyone from something that hurts NO ONE is retarded and unneccisary.

I also think its funny that in one thread you seem so offended that someone says "i bet he's black" ...

and in another, you say that the NBA should be forcing its players to look more "professional.(ie White)"

Ah, gotta love the paternal, must help out the hopeless black men mentality of the "open minded" folk.

You're ridiculous. First of all, you're making a lot of assumptions here. Just because they say they want their players to look "professional" doesn't mean "white," you're just assuming that. It means they want them to look professional. Guess what? White men are not allowed to dress like slobs. It's not just the black guys. It makes perfect sense that they want to clean up the league a little bit and run it as more of a business.

Holy shit. Race isn't the inspiration behind everything everything these days.
