1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

I've actually heard this argument made by some politician in Pennsylvania, but I can't remember who it was.

If I were supreme ruler, I would just file gay marriage into the "why should I care" file. To the people who are opposed to gay marriage: What difference does it make to you? Why should the government get involved? Get over it, and mind your own business.

You beat me. As soon as I read politician and PA in regards to anti-gay legislation, I knew it was good ole Rick.

Rick's a good man. He's got solid values and I certainly commend him for standing by his beliefs unwaiveringly. I just don't agree with him. But I'd much rather see a politician talk about his beliefs proudly rather than pussyfoot around them. One debate that comes to mind is the one beween John Edwards and Dick Cheney. For God's sakes man, if you don't believe in gay rights, say so. But if your beliefs have shifted over the years because you love your daughter then don't be afraid to speak up! I digress... but one additional point, I don't believe Edwards had any right to bring up Dick Cheney's family in a political debate.

Well, that's sort of like saying the French love to eat frog legs. Yes and no. There are people on both sides of the fence. Senator Rick Santorum from Pennsylvania is very much against gay marriage. There are several people right here on this board that are very much in favor OR don't care one way or the other about it.
