I don't care what the weather is, what they did in AZ or fucking Milwaukee at this time of year. If they made the order at the beginning of the playoffs, I'd have no qualms, but they let the Astros play with the roof closed those 5 games. Why now? I'm thinking MLB wants the Chi Sox to win

MLB has the right to do whatever they feel like in the playoffs... teams understand that this right becomes MLB's right once the playoffs begin
the only real reason i have heard is that selig thinks it will look better with the roof open... and im serious about that
and i agree that it is bullshit... the volume of that place with a closed roof is insane

I'm royally pissed about this.
The fucking stadium only seats 37,000, there's a reason why the goddamn thing gets closed - it's the loudest stadium in the league when it's closed. The goddamn Chi Sox had the cold weather as their advantage, now it's our fucking turn.
That's the most bullshit excuse I've ever heard. "Hey Houston, it's nice weather outside, open you stadium". Fuck you, Bud Selig.
It should be up to the home team, not that goddamn prick of a commissioner.

Then stadium guidelines need to be explicitly stated at the beginning of the season, not arbitrarily set 3 hours before game time.

That is irrelevant to anything concerning the game.

I agree.
i believe it has been known since day one that MLB has control over roofs during the playoffs... and i agree that it is completely irrelevant, but selig wants a purty picturesque game 3, the jackass

I split this thread off because I think this has big implications beyond simply just this World Series.
Say the Patriots have a retractable roof. Would it be fair for Paul Tagliabue to force them to close their roof during the AFC championship against the Colts, with a vicious nor'easter pounding on Peyton Manning and Co.?
I'd say no. I agree with the previous complaints saying there's a reason why it's called home field advantage

There is talk that the new stadium the Jets and Giants are building will have a retractable roof. Shit will hit the fan for sure if the NFL ever tries to force either team to close the roof come playoff time.

If the Pack are involved... FOR GOD'S SAKE KEEP THE ROOF OPEN! Even if it's a blizzard!

But seriously. Home field advantage is exacty that for a reason. The other team comes on your turf and takes it to you on those terms, if they can.
If you're going to regulate home field advantage, then you might as well just play the games in a neutral venue. How much fun would that be? Especially in baseball.

I do think what Selig is pulling is complete bullshit. However, I also believe an individual team relinquishes its rights by being a part of MLB. Bad, bad precedent to set, though.

I think it's COMPLETELY ridiculous. Maybe next year Selig will create a super-stadium where every team can play and no team will have home field advantage.
Seriously though, why didn't they force Chicago to wait for a warmer day or make them play indoors somewhere? If it's going to go one way, it has to go both... but it should go neither.

What rules? It's complete arbitrary discretion. There's no rule that good weather = open stadium.
Dickface just decided that the stadium looks prettier open and the noise levels will be less intimidating for the Sox. I don't remember seeing a "too much noise for Sox no likey" rule either.
