Isn't it about time someone wrote a definitive pearl jam biography? It would be amazing if the band could be involved and contribute some photos and thoughts.
Something along the lines of the excellent "ten past ten" article in spin a few years ago, but more expansive.
All we really have is the lame 5 against 1 by Kim Neely that isn't that great. A lots happened since that book too.

There was another book someone recommended here a few months ago that was supposed to be better than the Neely book. I can't remember the name of it, but would like to know so I can look for it.

I would actually love to read a book about road stories and stories from the recording sessions...stuff like that. Rather than the seedy personal life junk. I've gotten my fill of that from Nirvana books.

There was one about ed called none too tortured or something.
What we need is a proper pj fan who is a respected journo and not just into making money.

There is a really cool REM book (I think it is called it crawled from the south) which is a history of the band that goes through each album in depth telling stories about what the songs are about, the process of writing them, etc. A ton of fun.

I'll be happy to wait for this until they officially retire.

if it was possible to sit down and listen to every pearl jam bootleg from the start back in 1990 in order to the present it would be similar to a pretty good book. Sometimes Ed goes on rants and gives some nice insight to songs and places they have been while recording and on the road. I think I may just do that, except I don't have every show... but I am working on that! :D

Does anyone remember that Mtv special from when Unplugged first came out called Past Present & Future? I had it taped, it aired right after Unplugged and I remember it being like an early Behind the Music and really liking it, but I haven't seen it since 1993 or so. Friend lost it. I'm still pissed...

Anyways, non personal book = good. Touring and recording would be great.

love as always

it would be cool to read about a tour, kind of like about the people who make the tour work, funny road stories similar to the Dirty Frank tale.

It would be nice to hear about what the band is really like on tour and in the studio. I think it would be cool to hear what the guys think of certain songs... the inspiration behind them, what some of them are really about, what they mean to each member.

I'll write it someday.

Made even better by having the songs that were recorded at that particular time.

That would be None Too Fragile: Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder. It's not great, really.

That's a link to it if you want.

Remember that PJ's 'thing' is being enigmatic. No journalist, no matter how respected, will be able to get a decent biography put together without their cooperation, and the only thing I'd really be interested in hearing about is the in-studio stuff, who wrote what, how Stone got Mankind onto No Code (no flaming, I think it's a great track) undsoweiter.
