And I need to discuss specific legislation he has passed / that he is currently working on. His website provides some information, but not very much. http://frist.senate.gov/index.cfm?FuseA ... &Year=2000

If I follow that link, I would be led to believe that he passed no legislation in his first 6 years in office.

Is there a website that would be better for such information?

Thanks

It kind of depends on what you mean about legislation he's passed. His voting record is on this website as well as ratings from a plethora of special interest groups.

If you're talking about what bills he's sponsored (introduced into Congress), I'm not sure. That has to be on the US Congress website somewhere.

THIS IS A START

The Frist official site seems like the only legit place from my rudimentary googling. It's obviously not been filled in for previous years. Try a political science database if you have access to one. I remember you said you had access to Lexis, so go from there. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I assume my government professor meant legislation introduced, though I'll have to clarify that tomorrow. Thanks.

Lexis could work, true. I need to get a new log in for that.

There you go ... you can search for bills that he has sponsored and/or cosponsored, but it goes year by year.

Wow, that's perfect.
Sponsored means that he introduced said legislation, yes?

If you come by Leavey Library I can help you acess a variety of e-resources, including the Lexis Nexis database.

My job is so easy.

Let's start a movement to change this to just e-sources.

well, sort of. while sponsors are the ones that technically introduce it, sometimes they aren't aware they're introducing it - it's actually secretaries that drop the laws off at the offices. i've asked state senators and assemblymen about legislation they sponsored before and they weren't even aware of what i was talking about. the co-sponsors of the bill are basically saying 'we like this, we'll back you on it, buddy'. to be honest, i'd say a certain percentage of the legislation is stuff the lawmakers never even know they're backing or see. they don't even write the laws- they usually have activist groups do it for them. it's quite interesting.

also, in a house controlled by republicans, for the most part it doesn't matter who sponsors legislation. and i think frist, being the leader, probably doesn't introduce as much himself as the others do.

and it's not really them that come up with most legislation. the activist groups or people in their district come to them with it, or they will get a bill from an assemblymember that passed the house, but needs a senate sponsor.

I'll type up that memo and make sure to note it in my TPS report.
