This looks good. I saw the preview and also an interview of Sam Mendes (the director) and the author about the film this weekend when I went to see Serenity.

It's been a LONG time since I've been this excited to see a movie. It looks so fucking perfect. The cast is amazing (besides Foxx) and Mendes is yet to falter, in my opinion. This trailer is the best one I've ever seen. This looks like it could be everything Full Metal Jacket should have been. (Don't get me wrong, FMJ is a fantastic film, it just could have been so much more.)

From what I've seen so far I'm feeling kind of mixed on this one. I hate to say it, but I'll probably be turning to reviews (from friends and those posted here) to decide whether or not I go see this one. It's definitely not happening this weekend since we're finally getting Good Night and Good Luck AND the independent film festival is going on and there's a few things there I wouldn't mind seeing as well.

I don't see what was cliche about Foxx in Collateral.
I like Gyllenhall, but he gets cast in too much stuff these days. He wasn't right for his part in Proof, and he's really not right for this part either.

The teaser I saw made it look like the most expensive military recruiting video of all time.
I don't know about dudes walking around a barren wasteland shrouded with the smoke from oil fires being a good recruiting video, but we could've seen different trailers.

From what I've read, this movie is not at all pro war. My friend just read the book, and said it is more anti then anything else. It isn't the typical war film most people are expecting. Somewhere between Full Metal Jacket and Saving Private Ryan, but less actual fighting then both. This is the frst Gulf War after all.
