I doubt most of you have heard them... but you should. They are an unbelievable band... absolutely amazing. They never made it big outside of Canada, but they've been Canadian icons for 15 years now. Anyone else a fan?

I love 'em. I only actually own a couple of their albums, but like most Canadians, I know plenty of their songs and have seen them live. They are an amazing live band and have had a long and respectable career with a steady following. They're like the Canadian pearl jam.

Hmmm... I never thought of it that way. It makes perfect sense.
their songs are great while getting drunk with friends or while getting drunk with friends around the campfire or while getting drunk here or getting drunk there or getting drunk anywhere.

Seen them in small venues in Holland a few times. Great band!

*BUMP*
Looking through the pages.... What do I find. Someone with impeccable taste in music had a HIP thread.
I've loved the Hip for 16 years now. I joined on to http://www.hipbase.com just recently. I have just about all the swag I can think of. I bought rolling papers with The Hip logos. I've never used them.
I keep finding Hip and Pearl Jam references overlapping on Hipbase in almost half the threads. It's awesome.

I always been told that it would be definitely cool if pearl jam covered a Hip song.
Whoever told you that must have impeccable taste in music as well.
This has always been a dream of mine. I've always wanted to hear PJ cover Locked in the Trunk of a Car. If they ever covered the Hip in a place like Toronto, the crowd would explode.
They were great up to "Phantom Power" It went downhill after that
in violet light was a bit spotty, ok (though it has some great songs), but music @ work and in between evolution were both pretty damn solid.

I was gonna search for a hip thread this morning actually to talk about how freaking great their new box set is!!
Can't agree with them going downhill after Phantom Power at all. Sure, they've definitly changed and evolved over the years, but I've yet to be let down with a new hip album and their latest, In Between Evolution is among my favorites.
The dvd's in the box set are awesome, I love the Marcoscopic film on there. I'd recommend picking it up to any level of Hip fan, well worth the $45(cnd) price tag.

Is the new boxset a collection of b-sides and rarities, or is it a collection of their studio releases? I would me more interested in the latter, since my following of the Hip has waned significantly since the 90's and i haven't really kept up on their work.

The cd's are a "best of" collection with two new songs thrown in there. One dvd is a concert of theirs from Toronto last year in its entierty. The other dvd is a collection of their videos, a documentary film and a bunch of other bits.
All good stuff.
They alluded to a b sides, raraties album sometime in the future in a recent interview. I can't wait for that.
