at first it was all john with me. i was young, politically minded, wary of paul and his seeming sell-out, and all about john. then the more i listened to many different kinds of music, the more i came to appreciate the songwriting talent and melodic voice of sir paul mccartney. i even admitted to myself that most of my favorite beatles songs are paul songs. lately i've been going back to john, which has been heightened by a recent 1-2-3-4 punch on a playlist of 'across the universe', 'i'm only sleeping', 'strawberry fields forever', and 'rain'. i wonder if i really do like john the best? he's got the most convicition in his voice, and his expiremental stuff always hits the marks.

gah, i can't seem to make up my mind. do i even have to?

p.s. george secretely won my heart when he gave that little fake smile to the girl on the train that ringo decided not to talk to because 'she'll only reject me in the end' in a hard day's night.

Excellent post.

I'm getting to be an old timer now, but when I was younger I was all about John. What you said in your post was pretty much what I went through.

The selling point for me w/ Paul is the White album. His diversity on that album is simply sick. Going from "Back in the USSR" , to "Obla-di", to "Rocky Racoon", to "Martha My Dear", to "Why Don't We Do It In The Road", to "I Will", to "Helter Skelter" is nothing short of genius.

Paul is the man!

Oh, BTW my favorite Beatles song is actually a George song. The same one that I use for my signature; "It's All Too Much"
On a side bar, I'd love to hear Pearl Jam cover that song. I can see Mr. Vedder having a fun time w/ his tambourine during the intro.

Call me young and immature, but John's where it's at. I'm starting to appreciate McCartney a lot more, but he really just cannot compare to John in terms of experimentation, depth, and lyricism.

What the hell is up w/ all the animosity toward Paul? :?

Haven't y'all ever heard Paperback Writer?

Geez; All 4 of the Beatles are fucking awesome.

Wings and his solo career completely tarnished what he did with the Beatles for a lot of people.
Ringo would be better-lookedupon if he just became a recluse.
George should have written more Beatles songs, he'd be right there with John if he had.

I know we've done this thread before, but I can't find it.

Anyway - George.

I hear you on that, but I'm thinking strictly of Paul's work w/ the Beatles; which IMO is damn near perfect.

that's how i feel. Paul wrote the poppy-fun songs while John turned it up a notch and made the great psychedelic songs along with some great political tunes. Plus i like his voice a lot better.

Anyone who picked Ringo is a liar, they're just saying it to be different and secretly love Paul.

John, by a VERY narrow margin.
