HELSINKI (Reuters) - A black labrador called Sonar with a particularly keen nose for sniffing out rotting corpses underwater has once again come to the aid of Finnish rescuers by successfully pinpointing her 95th body.
Six-year-old Sonar, who is brought in when conventional searches with normal sonar and cameras fail, broke into her trademark bark when cruising over the surface and correctly established the location of a drowned fisherman at the bottom of Tarjanne lake in central Finland.
"She is really a motivated colleague, I only wish I had that kind of enthusiasm on cold days like this," handler Reino Savukoski, a volunteer rescuer, told Aamulehti newspaper after Sonar's barks allowed rescue workers to retrieve the body.
