Back in 2003, before the release of Lost Dogs, three Binaural Outtakes, slightly varying from their Lost Dogs opposites, appeared on the internet. I was wondering if anyone could offer any information on why Pearl Jam left the three songs (Letter To The Dead, Fatal and Education [and In The Moonlight]) off of Binaural at the last second. I've always wondered. Also, if anyone has the leaked versions in anything better than pure crap format, perhaps they could tell me how to retrieve them as well. Thanks for the help!

Hey hey, now don't forget the strings and different mix in Education, and the count-in to Fatal. These are all subtle differences that need to be added to the collection I have running. Ed must have done some lyrical overdubs during the Riot Act era, as well. I'm sure that I heard they were re-tooling Sad during those sessions.

I've never even heard the leaked versions. can anyone point out a place to get those?
Welcome to the board education.

i got these demos early during the binaural tour from 2 friends that received them via a friend out in seattle. we were blown away when we heard these demos, as at the time, no one even knew of any binaural outtakes, let alone had heard them. i can remember listening to them in the parking lot of the long island show with the two guys i had just met. they literally had one of only a few copies of the demos. these two guys were nice enough to give me a copy of the demos, with the agreement that we wouldnt share them. they also gave them to one other fool from canada under the same pretense. as soon as that #$^% got home, he jumped on this site and posted that he had the songs and would send them to anyone who wanted them. that #$$%^% is literally the person who leaked these treasures out to the mainstream b/c he couldnt leave well enough alone. when he first posted he had these songs people didnt even believe him b/c no one knew of them. it was kind of neat knowing that we were part of something special at the time. but it was also quite annoying knowing this ^$%$^$ ruined it for a select few.
the original disc that i have is certainly a demo version of the songs, but they have are very good quality and not anything near crappy quality. also, like posted, they are different from the lost dogs versions.

People knew about Binaural outtakes when they posted the original track list on the Synergy site before Binaural came out. Letter To The Dead(Sad), Fatal, Education, and In The Moonlight were all listed. And Mike mentioned Letter To The Dead in an interview long before Lost Dogs came out, saying it was written by Ed and was very good. This made people drool over it long before Lost Dogs came out.

I don't understand why you're so upset here? No one else should have the demos? Sounds pretty elitist to me...
no, no...dont mean to come off as elitist. the original source empahtically asked my friends not to leak these original demos online or out to the public, as they were not meant for that. so its upsetting b/c someone we didnt even know were nice enough to share something with us and ask that it not be leaked out. and the first thing this fool does is go home and offer them to anyone who wants them, as if he was the one who had them to begin with. just not right, thats all.

The only versions of these songs that leaked were really poor mp3 quality. Are the versions on your disc better than those?

Since there was a thread on this over on Sidewalkers about this and I'd like to help that fellow out a little. There are LOSSLESS versions of these songs. Who, what, where, when, why and how, I can't get into, but I think blaylock10's account of what happened is accurate. So they are out there... just hard to find. It may walk that line of elitism, but then again, that is another argument for another thread. The thirst for hearing Fatal and the others was only stoked when stonegroovesme posted about them on Synergy so long ago. BUt even that's another mystery that discussions of which can be taken probably to PM's. Much like other taboo topics, remember official people DO visit public boards and DO keep track of things that people SAY and DO. And sometimes there can be repercussions for running off at the mouth about stuff. Just watch yourselves!
well, i dont mean to be running off at the mouth about it, thats for sure...just wanted to share my version of the songs, and more importantly, my displeasure with the leakage of them by the aforementioned person...i tired to find the threads from 2003, but the archives dont seem to go back that far. or at least i cant figure it out...
the copy i have is a burned cd of a burned cd, which was a copy of the "original" one (as far as i know)...and thats about all i know of it. its cd-quality though, and not a poor mp3 quality.
i remember talking to that guy about it, since I'm from toronto too i asked if he would mail me them or B+P me them...he said no, that couldnt share them, he just wanted to talk about them and see if anybody else had heard them cuz he was so excited...pretty dumb i guess to talk if you can't share, but i don't think he leaked them....i know cuz i tried pretty hard to get em out of him... maybe he just misinterpreted that 'not sharing' meant 'not talking' as well as 'not leaking'

i think i have those saved as mp3s on my computer back home. but they were not shitty quality, they were almost perfect. I got them real secretive from someone at synergy.

ah, very interesting...we are deinfately talking about the same person...and all i remember hearing and reading was that he was leaking them, offering them to anyone, etc, etc. maybe, like you are saying, he didnt leak them (and hopefully you are right)...and then im just a fool! i know that has been proven to be fact time and again too!

Also interesting to note: the original Binaural tracklist on Synergy, in addition to having Letter to the Dead, In the Moonlight, Education, and Fatal on it, also DID NOT have Gods' Dice. So it was a 16 track album. I remember people freaking out over that. I burned myself a copy of that tracklist, and I have to say, I think it beats the official one.
The original posted tracklist for No Code also included "All Night", I believe. That song is amazing--I wish they'd open shows with. "Why be satisfied/ We've got all night!"
