I dunno, but the 2001 Hurricanes might. I think like 20 guys from that team are in the NFL right now...

USC would get mauled in the trenches, it would be a complete wreck, perhaps at a few skill positions USC would have an advantege but that would not be enough.

USC's defense is garbage. GB is 1-7 this year Farve would still put up 5 or 600 yards passing as would Kurt Warner. They would get mauled. NFL Defensive linemen would eat their lunch. Imagine what say Darnell Dockett from Arizona would do to Leinart or worse Rod Coleman from the Falcons or even KGB from the Packers since we're on the years crappiest teams. Pro Athletes are freaks, they are the best of the best of the best even on the worst overall teams.

In arguing with my friends, this is the one point that I will concede: That in the trenches the NFL would dominate. But I believe that at all other positions, and thus in the overall game, USC would have at least a chance to win.
I mean San Fran last week had 11 possessions and couldn't move the ball 10 yards in 9 out of the 11. Yes, they were playing the Giants and not USC (who does have a lackluster D), but my god the 49ers SUCK!
USC would have at least a chance....

No. they wouldnt. Why? Because those skill players wouldnt get a chance to touch the ball because of the total domination in the trenches. Bryant Young And Julian Peterson would be taking the hand offs from Leinhart.
to go along with the Miami '01, i would like to throw UM '97- i think 99- into the mix.... If only because all 5 O-Lineman have started NFL games (3 first rounders) Backus, Hutchinson, M. Williams, David Brandt and John Goodwin. I also think terrell, a-train, tuman, a. shea and Brady/Henson were on that team as well.

I highly doubt it.
I remember hearing that back in the day they the NFL Champion would play the College all-stars and a few times the College teams won. Maybe it was something else but I know there was some wierd football game like that.

i've never heard of it, but even if this did happen, there's no way an NFL guy plays this game much harder than he would in, say, the pro-bowl.
so i guess in a sense, USC would have a shot, then, because none of the NFL guys would actually go all out.
But in an actual competitive game, i can't fathom any college team ever beating an NFL team of the same year. the talent differential is just far too large.

Arch Ward, the sports editor of the Chicago Tribune, in 1934 came up with the idea of a pre-season game between the NFL champions and a team of college all-stars to benefit the newspaper's charity fund. All of the games were played at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The first meeting, on Aug. 31, 1934, ended in a scoreless tie. In the early years, the college players did pretty well against the pros. The NFL champions dominated in later years, however, losing only once after 1955.
In 1976, the game was suspended and finally called off because of a heavy rainstorm late in the third quarter, with the Pittsburgh Steelers holding a 24-0 lead.
That was the last game of the series. There were two main reasons for the demise. First, pro football salaries had reached a much higher level, many college players who were unwilling to take part in the game for fear of injury. Second, fan interest had declined substantially because of the NFL's dominance.
