He really was a bad president. As likable a guy as he is, he was not a good manager, and he couldn't even interact with his own party in congress.

He's been a lot more effective in his non-President role.

In high school, a friend of mine and I used to call old people "Andersons," after the old guy in Beavis and Butthead. Huh, huh...you said, "old."

I love Carter as a person, but as a President, I would say he was the worst president in modern history. I think every action he took during his presidency resulted in something a later president had to fix, and some of his actions are still causing us problems. He is a great advocate, but I would vote my next door neighbor who I have never actually talked to, into the presadency before I would even consider Carter.

President Carter has a new book out: Our Endangered Values

You can see him talking about it in this link from the cbs news website...

(there is a commercial first, then the interview starts  )

http://video.cgi.cbsnews.com/video/vide ... ews.video3

One of the things that caught my attention was the fact that while he is a devout baptist, way more religious than dumbass dubya (who i think is faking it to "cover his bases") that President Carter is appalled by the blurred lines of separation of church and state...and even more appalled by the growing divide between rich and poor.

President again? No. Too gentle and kind of a man to rip apart what dumbass has put together. But a high level cabinet position? yes. VP for Hilary/Kerry/Obama/insert Dem wannabe here? Definately.

I'm going to buy his book today...

Yeah I caught him on Charlie Rose the other night, and wow he just seemed to be right on about alot of things, hes smart, honest, and he sounded like he knew what had to be done in order to get this country back on the right path.

I think that Carter would make a far better president today than he did 30 years ago, but that's only because now he has 30 years of experience that he didn't have before.

When you say worst president in modern history, i assume you aren't counting George until his term is over. there really is no comparison between going to war with the wrong information and not keeping your T bills in check. Don't you think?

Carter for President now? I don't think so. While I'd agree he wasn't the best of Presidents, he certaintly wasn't the worst. esp considering Nixon. I think Carter ended up getting blamed for the results of some of Nixon's mess. The one good and lasting thing that Carter did would probably be the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. There has not been a war between those to nations since. I beleive this was the first step in creating a greater peace in the Middle East. Granted there is still a long way to go and what are current President is doing is not helping. I'm afraid the Iraq war may end up destabilizing the whole region.
Anywho I'd have to say Jimmy Carter is one of our greatest X-Presidents. Only two other Presidents have gotten The Nobel Peace Prize, Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

This guy's the last person I'd trust trying to save this country from an oil crisis and work to free american hostages in the middle east . . . I guess history really does repeat itself . . .

Where did I say I'd want him to be president now?

I cut off Bill Clinton's limosine on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the summer of 1992 and gave his driver the finger.
