Yesterday on Around The Horn, Bill Plaschke (sp) from (I think) The L.A. Times said that this year's SEC champion would "finish 4th in the Pac-10."

Now, I love to see my Pac-10 getting respect, but I'm no fool. This was an absolutely ridiculous statement. Oregon and UCLA are NOT that good, and the eventual SEC champ would likely finish 2nd only to USC.

My point: This supports my claim that sports commentators do not always believe what they say on the air. For example...Woody Paige vs. Skip Bayless on Cold Pizza. Can it really be possible that they have polar opposite opinions on EVERYTHING??? I firmly believe that the producers of these shows tell the commentators what side of an argument to take in the interest of making interesting TV.

Agree or Disagree?

Agree 100% They take a side going in and defend it.

As for the Pac-10 vs the SEC, anyone who knows anything about college football knows that the SEC is so much better than the PAC-10. The PAC-10 is probably the 4th strongest conference and I don't know that it's that much better than the Big 12.

Oregon's offense is great to watch. Good QB and receivers.

I am an SEC fan so here is my view....

I think the Pac 10 has some great teams. My only complaint or point I would make is that the SEC has better and stronger defenses. Look around the league and see how many 1st string running backs make it through the entire year without getting hurt or dinged up.

I would love to see USC play an entire sec schedule. I know they beat Auburn two years in a row and Arkansas by 60 this year. But, my point is the wear and tear it takes on your team week in and week out. I would like to see how USC would last. They might go 13-0, but I would like to see how they held up.

I saw that PTI yesterday too. Placshki is a fucking moron. I think he does actually believe that the Pac 10 is better than the SEC. At least he's better than Calishaw who supports the BCS.

Put UCLA and Oregon in the SEC and they would end up 5-5. Their defenses are awful and teams like Auburn would just run it down their throat every game. I'd put the Pac 10 in the same class with the ACC(with the big 12 even lower). The SEC and Big Ten are on another level. Winning road games against these teams is quite a task.

Comparing college conferences provides a heated debate without much substance. The truth of the matter is, most Division-I conferences are pretty equal. Each has a top tier of teams, some that never seem to break out of the middle, and some that suck. The SEC this year was light on top, good in the middle and not terrible on the bottom. The PAC-10 was very top heavy. The Big Ten was light on top, but its bottom tier was better than many this year. The Big 12 has a big gun on top and a lot of terrible ones after that. And so on and so forth.

lsu, georgia, auburn, alabama=not light

s carolina, florida= average

vandy, kentucky=below average

ole miss, arkansas, miss. st., tenn.=terrible

looks like to me the conference is top heavy with a bunch of crappy teams after the top four to six.
