Maybe so, but Kazakhstan — which take-no-prisoners comic Ali G has made a career of portraying as a nation of drunks who enjoy punching cows — isn't laughing.
Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry yesterday threatened legal action against "Da Ali G Show" creator Sacha Baron Cohen for "derogatory" routines it says have made the central Asian state a big joke.
For years, Cohen has mocked Kazakhstan by playing a fictional Kazakh TV newsman named Borat Sagdiyev.
While Kazakh officials have privately fumed, they've kept quiet.
That is, until Cohen's appearance last Thursday at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
He hosted the program as Borat, arriving on a rickety Air Kazakh propeller plane flown by a one-eyed pilot with a bottle of vodka.
"We view Mr. Cohen's behavior at the MTV Europe Music Awards as utterly unacceptable, being a concoction of bad taste and ill manners," said a spokesman for Minister of Foreign Affairs Kassymzhomart Tokaev.
"[It] is completely incompatible with ethics and civilized behavior. We do not rule out that Mr. Cohen is serving someone's political order designed to present Kazakhstan and its people in a derogatory way," spokesman Yerzhan Ashykbayev said.
The British entertainer, as well as his alter ego Borat, appeared unconcerned with the threat.
"Borat could not be reached for comment as he is relaxing at a resort in the Caspian Sea," Cohen spokesman Matt Labov told The Post.
