So, after holding an American citizen for 3 years w/o charges, Al Gonzales decides to charge Jose Padilla with some crimes (not, by the way, what we were told he was arrested for) on the eve of the Supreme Court's decision whether or not to hear the case. Thus, there is now, most likely, no case for the court to hear.
Please hear the case anyhow. This kind of bullshit is the reason that we have 3 branches of government in the first place.
Thank you,
B

He deserves to be charged w/ a crime and given a trial. I'm not sure he deserves anyone caring how his name is pronounced.

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
I think he deserves those rights on virtue of being human.

I think that the laws of the US do not extend to those who live beyond it's borders. Non-US citizens are not entitled to US rights anymore than US citizens are entitled to benefit from teh laws of other nations.*
*From a purely philosophical point of view. I would agree with you on moral grounds that all "suspects are innocent" until proven otherwise.

Yes but that statement didn't apply to black people when it was written, so why should we think it would include foreigners?
