Look, it's simple: if you don't have the house spotless and a sandwich ready when I get home from work, you better be having a baby or you're gonna feel the business end of my hand.

Do you guys laugh when someone makes fun of another race? When stereotypes are mocked for our enjoyment? Because if you do, and you're giving me shit about the statement I made in jest earlier, you can come eat my ass.
Making fun of "taboo" things is oftentimes the only way to deal with it. What does getting all uptight and upset and worked up over racism, violence, etc do? Nothing. It just puts people on edge and usually causes more problems. If you can laugh about it and see how ridiculous it is from a humor point of view, it's much easier to try and make something happen.
Do you laugh when someone with cancer or another disease makes fun of it and those with it?
Don't have such ridiculous double standards.
And if you don't laugh at that stuff and/or can't take a joke, I pity the sad existence that is your life. Deal with it, because I'm not going to stop making fun of it and neither is anyone else. And if you take what I say seriously, you can again come and eat my ass.

It's all about context. Making jokes about outdated and ignorant worldviews can be funny but posting that as a response to an article about the high levels of domestic violence in the world just didn't come across as being very humourous to me.
I may have laughed if that comment was directed sarcastically at someone in General Discussion, but laughing off the fact that large numbers of women are raped and abused seems in poor taste.

I dont think domestic violence is a taboo because its not an accepted social custom. Joking about taboo subjects is all about context. And to joke about violence against women is misogynistic. Nobody is saying anything to you personally, I gather from the other posters, its just in bad taste. Dont take disagreement with your posts as a personal attack. And yes we do have senses of humor. But its hard to find things that have adversely affecting your life funny, whether it was domestic violence, cancer, etc.

See Kyle the thing is this isn't a fucking comedy club, it's a forum where people are trying to have serious discussions about things. Yes, sometimes we laugh at shit like that. But there's a time and place for that. That's really not what people are here for.

Digging into Bush and the Government is one thing, I don't know anyone directly related to Bush or for that matter any sibling raised by the government, these are both impersonal subjects. Domestic voilence on the other hand is very personal and effects a significant amount of people.

No, you're right, Ara, it's not a fucking comedy club, it's a fucking INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD so, maybe, you should stop acting like everything said here is life and death, get the stick out of your ass and realize if you want to talk truly "seriously" about it, go to some real, live discussion group with a bunch of battered women and talk; don't sit around high, talking with a bunch of anonymous, faceless "people" on the internet about how you're going to make the fucking world a better place or think you will by bitching about how Bush/the republicans are the root of all evil. The schtick around here is getting really fucking old, really fucking fast.
Jesus Christ. This place used to be fun. Now it's just the most retarded of retards in General Discussion and the most uptight pricks ever in here.
Guess I better go read another thread down the page and see how posting here can help change the world 1KB of bandwidth at a time.
