Just wondering if any of you are into playing the old Genesis/Megadrive, Snes, NES or Gameboy games on emulators. Rediscovering Earthworm Jim atm :worthy:

just search for "snes emulator" "genesis emulator" ect.... they are easy to find then when looking for games they are called "roms". and you can play all your old favorites.

I use Nester and snes9xw for NES and SNES emulation.

I've not been able to find decent ROMs for the Genesis, so I've held off on that one.

There are some pretty awesome ROMs for the genesis. Besides those mentioned above, try Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage, Landstalker (a kick ass RPG), Shining Force, The Story of Thor, Toejam and Earl, Ecco, Rocket Knight Adventures.

And (I've said it once I'll say it again) the mighty Earthworm Jim (1 and 2) :D

Been playing Megaman 2 for the NES recently as well... wow that brought back memories :)

Mike Tyson's Punch Out on emulator is the best. I've played some Ghosts N Goblins on those too. Good times.

Yeah. Yeah I used to do that a lot a while ago, gotta pick it up again. I'm more of a SNES guy myself, although I loved the Sonic games as well... I guess the SNES just had a lot more good RPGs (Final Fantasy series, Lufia, Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu), Terranigma, Illusion of Time)...
Somehow, I could never really get into landstalker, I believe it was cause I was so used to SNES style RPGs already when I started that one...
But those mentioned for genesis are pretty cool.

A couple of years ago I got into this thing called MAME (Multi-Arcade Machine Emulator), right before they started cracking down on the ROM distributors. But for a while, you could find just about any classic arcade machine you could imagine. I still open it up once in a while to play some Street Fighter II.

I'm going to try (and fail) not to sound like a nerd here, but Landstalker and Story of Thor are excellent RPGs for the Genesis - keep at them and you'll see

I remember a brilliant Simpsons game for the arcade. Took a lot of my pocket money that one!

do these take up a lot of room on your hard drive?
do the contain spyware or anything harmful?
are they free?
how do you control them..can you buy a control pad similar to the old systems?

igb I know the ROMs for the arcade were very small, just a couple hundred kilobytes each or something.

Most of them were really small, I had tons of NES games and it was only a couple hundred megs. They were free and you could use your keyboard or a controller if you had one, basically the same thing as any other computer game. Some games worked fine with the keyboard but others you pretty much needed a controller for if you hoped to get very far.

by the way, ROMS ARE NOT REALLY FREE!
Actually it is forbidden to have them on your hardrive for more than 24 hours, unless you also have the original game.
Thus being said, who gives a fuck. You can download them for free, so whatever.

yeah well. I liked Story of Thor. Maybe my landstalker experience was spoilt because I had too high expectations in it.

(Now that sounded nerdy, right?)
