I was thinking about this in the other bands forum. RM is the only message board I post on so I was wondering how Pearl jam is recieved/remembered on message boards for other bands in different genre's. Anyone?

I post a lot on a general music-festival-concert board from Belgium. And well... they are well received there. Most people respect them, some like them a lot, but they all get tired of
1. PJ not coming to Belgium
2. Me posting about PJ way too much.

depends on what bands board it is.

i've seen them received well, and i've seen them trashed.

On which boards? What do they generally say about them?

this is from one of the spin magazine forums when benaroya was about to be released..

I really hate to tell you few Pearl Jam fans here, but Pearl Jam sucks. Yup, it's true. And what's more, they've been sucking for a long time. Has there ever been a more boorish band, cranking out absolute money-grabbing drivel under the guise of quality? Nope, and here's further proof. As if there needs to be another live testament to their unsurpassed mediocrity (releasing every live show on cd), we are burdened with a double slab hailed as the much anticipated acoustic/unplugged set. Not only is this not unplugged (say after me: electric guitars equals plugged), but it's the same old same old crap, only the pace is turned down as Eddie and the boys try to turn the corner in a quest to become the next Grateful Dead. Absolutley horrible.

this is recent from the Whites Stripes board....

Pearl Jam is great! I've been a fan since Ten came out and I just saw them in concert in Ottawa on their Canadian tour this year and it was awesome! They are one of those bands that seem to get better and better as the years go by. The concert was so intense and all the people there were really into it. I recommend you guys check out some of their stuff. I like Live on Two Legs.

They're widely considered the greatest band of all time.

Duh.

My experience on the few boards I post on is that a PJ thread normally starts out as straight bashing, then a couple of fans show up to defend them.

Sonic Youth fans generally feel about Pearl Jam the way Pearl Jam fans feel about Sonic Youth or Sleater Kinney... misunderstood.

There will always be contrarian dip-shits on every board, but on most of the music boards that I frequent, PJ is treated with some serious reverance. They arent talked about too much, but when they are there are usually lots of understated superlatives used in the thread. I'm actually amazed to see that one post that Cal put up.....and the boards that GEG goes to, I would imagine that there are not too many PJ fans at. But U2, Radiohead, the Stones, REM, Love and Rockets and others, it has always been really, really good.

I post on one of the R.E.M. boards and there are a lot of Pearl Jam fans over there.

I also post on a hockey board and there are 3 other fans besides me (and they all post on RM too. lol) and we have a Pearl Jam thread over there. Some people try to trash talk PJ, but they really have no clue as to what they are talking about, so they end up looking like complete idiots. Many people on that board wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass anyways.

the only other boards i post at are Dave Matthews Band boards and everyone there either really loves them or "just dont listen to them". No one ever bashes pj...but then again the only thing DMB fans bash is DMB.

Its a real shame for them, then. They've missed a hell of a decade of good music.

Here we go:

I only ended up at RM because the board I normally haunt got hacked two weeks ago and has been down ever since. It was a board dedicated to A Perfect Circle, though nobody that posted there was an APC fan  It was a place similar to this board on steroids. Rude, hostile, unfriendly...my kinda board. OK, so now I'm just bragging. I don't recall many PJ-specific threads, but they did come up every once in a while. There were at least two or three hardcore PJ fans--not counting me--and RM even got linked in a discussion I can't remember anymore. I never saw anyone write anything bad about PJ.

Just before the site went down I was planning on launching a No Code thread. I hear all the time (as I'm sure everyone does) that Ten is PJs best album and that No Code sucks. NO! No Code is tied with Vs for first in my rankings, and Ten can't beat Vitalogy.

So, as far as I can tell, APC.net <3s Pearl Jam, but they'd kick your ass for starting such a pansy ass thread. 8)
