This album is undoubtably one of the greatest albums of all time, it's right up there with 'OK Computer' from Radiohead, 'Disintegration' from the Cure... etc...
It's just unbelievably amazing
if you haven't picked it up, you HAVE to, PJ fans would love it
his eyes on this album cover say it all

is it really that good? it's got to be much different from his radio hits then because those were okay but never made me want to buy any of his albums.

Of all of Beck's albums I would consider Seachange the most essential. It is stunning.

It's VERY different from his other albums. It's a more singer-songwriter type album, but not in a cheesy way at all. It's just... unreal. He wrote it in the aftermath of his breakup with Winona Ryder so it's very melancholy and achy. Check out some sound clips at Amazon or something.

Well, when the album came out, all the reviews and media blurbs were saying that it was about Winona. But now that I've done a little quick research to double-check myself, I found that he dated this clothing designer chick for about 9 years and they broke up in 2000. It seems more likely that he would write a whole sad record about someone he dated for 9 years than someone he dated more briefly.
