james blunt, i think. his voice is hinting at a nick drake-ish thing, which wouldn't be terrible if he could learn to write a song. and he looks like jon heder.

Some of the girls at my school adore this guy-- I've never heard any of his music so I can't comment. I've read some lyrics and they sound like they are in the achingly-sentimental, Nicholas Sparks-tacky vein.

It's mostly the drama kids who are really into him and they have that really emotional, esxpressive personality that I usually find obnoxious, so I never checked out his music.

nothing wrong with emotion. just don't get all whiny and moany while singing something like this:

Quote:
My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
F**king high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Some of his lyrics are bad, but listen to the songs "Goodbye My Lover" and "No Bravery." The man does have some talent.

"Goodbye My Lover" is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Maybe because I lived the lyrics, or I recognize the longing in his vocals...but it always hits me hard.

Yeah, people in Engalnd are crazy over him. His album and single was like number one for the whole summer.

The guy likes to compare himself to Jeff Buckley, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake ,etc.

Well I may like the guy but he doesn't hold the company of those 3 just yet. Maybe Damien Rice, but certainly not Jeff Buckley or Elliott Smith.

And yeah I've heard that he's huge in England. But he was an English soldier before he turned singer-songwriter, so that may have something to do with it.

The song they play by him is "You're Beautiful," which many posters above have bashed as lyrically awful. And though its not great, it turned me on to some other pretty good songs. Check him out and let me know what you think.
