i'm really getting into this song lately. the lyrics are absolutely amazing. i'm beginning to think that the no code-yield era lyrics are pearl jam's best (my opinion of course). here's my interpretation on the song:

first, this guy is looking at his own mortality - at his own life - and trying to figure out what its all about, especially in relation to the world scheme as a whole.

then, i feel as if he has sorta figured out the deal, and he's saying 'hey, find me some hole to bury me in when i die, because that's what eventually happens'.

after realizing that, i think the guy decides to live his life to the fullest, knowing it has to come to an end. 'i'm discarding all thought' is aprefect example. then the song ends with 'i've had enough, said enough, felt enough, i'm fine, see ya later', basically saying he's discarding everything holding him down and living it up.

really great lyrics.

I love this song. Jeff certainly steps up and delivers on this one. It's a full-on bass assault.

I really like this song. Its by far the best weird/spoken word song that PJ does. Its so good, I forget that its mostly spoken. Another reason why Yield is my favorite record.

underrated song. a couple of years ago, when i watched that mtv special that brought me back home to PJ, there was an interview with Ed (it wasn't SVT), and the song was playing on the background, it was my first favorite, then In Hiding.

man, i really don't know. it was something mtv Brasil put together, it was called mtv Live, they showed a concert and the thing is, i didn't see it from the beginning so i don't know what concert it was, but Ed had middle hair and a beard, was in a military green jacket with folded sleeves, and had that wrist bandana, and they played songs that i didn't know (i had stopped with TEN), it was the first time i listened to Daughter, Small Town and Wishlist, and there were also interviews about Yield and Ed looked strange with short curly darker hair and a red face like when you travel and go to the beach and then you come back and it's winter, he even had a scarf around his neck (sorry, i can't explain it any better than this :D ). maybe some of you-who-know-all can figure it out...

i ended up writing one of my last college newspaper editorials about this song, breaking down lyrics, talking life. was good and well received. my buddy came back from one class saying how a bunch of kids were talking about how the editor of the school newspaper was a big pearl jam fan, and that was cool.

what a bump this one was. Probably their best experimental song

This interview was originally broadcasted when Yield came out. It was just the band talking about the songs on the album and scenes of them rehearsing. Kind of like SVT, but shorter and with less production.

I guess what you watched was a special put together by MTV Brasil, with scenes from different points in the band's career.
