I just saw this on the NBCNEWS website.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6521696/

I watch ABCNEWS with Peter Jennings but what's up with two of the big three hanging it up?

Has Brokaw given a reason? Who will replace them?

WTF?

Uh... cause.... he's, like, old and stuff... huh huh huh

Heheheheheh.... yeah, being old sucks! heheheh

I think he just wants to work less. I think I heard he'll be doing some documentary work or something. And he's going to take some more time to travel the world. Lucky bastard.

These guys are all old.

Honestly, they've been the number one guys at their networks for as long as I can remember. I remember Cronkite's last newscast in 81 I think, when Rather took over, I know Brokaw has been there since at least 86, and Jennings about the same.

I think NBC also kind of nudged him in that direction to make way for Brian Williams.

I personally don't like Brian Williams. His voice is so nasally and annoying, but they've been grooming him as Brokow's successor for like 5 years now.

He looks like Brokow's son. If people didn't pay attention to the news and turned him on they might say "That Brokow guy looks young!"

It doesn't even matter. TV news is worthless. So many better alternatives out there.

Isnt it odd, out of the 3 I could only stomach Peter Jennings.

Brokaw is and was the best, and it's not even close, he will be missed.

When you watched him most of the time you were getting news without any bias involved, where the other two, all you have to do is tune in one time, and you know where they are coming from.

I used to watch Jennings, but after the Disney takeover, things at ABC subtly changed over time.

You on the right are going to laugh, but if I ever watch the Evening News anymore, I watched Rather on CBS because I consider it the most unbiased. Not a left/right political bias (apart from Fox, I think that all the networks are pretty objective in that sense), but the CBS news is by far the most dry and the least sensationalist. That's how I want my news. Dry, straight up, facts and figures reporting. All of the other networks have too much glitz and extraneous bullshit in the way.

It's probably why CBS's ratings are so low, but it is the highest quality news IMO.

I just hope (against hope) that he and the others will be replaced with reporters who report the news and not create the news.

It won't happen.

But I can still hope.

I don't think these guys "create" the news. I think they "obscure" the news with minimalist reporting and a ton of irrelevant bullshit.

I can see that too. Sometimes, when hyping news that really isn't "news", or by blowing things out of proportion, they essentially make news that isn't really there.

You're right on both accounts though.

That being said, if they didn't get excited about things, the news would probably be quite boring.

I like MY news boring. But then that's why I get my news from NPR and the New York Times.

I love the BBC and PBS, but I try to be fair by tossing in Drudge and even checking out Fox once in a while.

Drudge's headlines and pictures are always funny, and what is good about it is that I can then do further research into seeing if they are actually true or not.

To be true, I'm getting less and less of the national network news these days. The internet is just so much more convenient!

...abeit risky though too
